The original release of the game had a problem with modern video cards of rendering the HUD at original resolution and shifted to the right or left, making the game virtually unplayable. LucasArts never bothered to fix it, but a fan patch later fixed it (10 years later) but by then, I'd already given up and sold the game.

Does the GOG version have the overlay patch installed?

If not, is it compatible with the fan made patch?

I really want to know before buying, because GOG has been really bad about bug ridden, unpatched releases lately.

Which fan patch are you talking about? Can you please provide its name and a link to it?

Also, this release certainly isn't free of bugs but there not much more that can be done. As far as I can tell this release is using at least one of the XWA Hacker fixes and a custom renderer which can be removed.

Personally, apart from graphical glitches I do have some overlay problems. Not sure if they're the same as the ones you experienced, but I'm definitely curious about the fan patch. I didn't know about it before. I would appreciate any info as well.
It seems, the XWA release didn't come with all the necessary bugfixes/optimizations, but it is a step in the right direction.

The Fix I was referring to was apparently folded into the XWA Hacker patches.

There was also a font pack that was required for scrambled text on ATI cards (though it also cropped up with some nVidia driver versions).

I'm assuming that GOG created their own installer for it, because the original installer on the discs was written in 16 bit windows code, which craps out on 64 bit windows. There's a custom 64-bit installer available to work around that with the discs.

Good to know that the GOG version incorporates at least some of those fan patches.
