Darksaber has done it: http://www.xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3008/viewtopic.php?p=147913#p147913
With the release of the GoG version of X-Wing Alliance, we've updated the XWAUCP installer to add support for this new version of XWA.
We have also added DTM's Super Backdrops, six months of work and testing, more than 350 new high definition images to replace all the original planets, nebulae, galaxies, asteroids and Death Star...to create the most revolutionary patch I've ever made.

Also added with the thanks to JérémyaFr (Jérémy Ansel), we also have a new DDraw.dll. The purpose of the new DDraw.dll is to replace the old Direct3D API with a newest Direct3D API. Replacing that, the 3D hardware mode is again available in game; the new DDraw.dll also contains a few performance/graphical improvements.

Along with fixing the Direct Draw graphics Jérémy has also fixed the old TGSmush.dll which now allows us to play the original cutscene smoother and allows to play high resolution custom cutscenes.

Last but not least we have also added a new custom made Dll file created again by Jérémy which allows you to add and customise Hangars within the game, you're no longer restricted to using the same hangar for each starship, station or platform, you can now have an individual hangar customised to your preference for each Hangar. Within the Hangar you can add or remove craft, reposition the craft in the hangar and change the camera views. For a small example of what can be done, go to the Pilot Proving Ground and take a look at the hangar.

So with the new Backdrops, various graphic enhancements, it's brought new life to a Classic Game.
Enjoy!
A big thanks to DS, JeremyaFr and the rest of the XWAU Project team!

Wonderful ! I was just checking to see if they updated their installer and just saw this topic !
Amazing job, downloading now !
Amazing! I did not expect anything this soon.
Looks like they had to pull that patch because of the recent update to Alliance from GOG.

No, pulling the Craft pack has nothing to do with the recent XWA update on GOG. The crashes caused by the Planetary Fighters and problems when installing the XWAU Craft Pack with the XWA discs have been fixed. It looks like Darksaber is waiting for another update of the ddraw.dll by JeremyaFr to fix the crashes that happen when loading certain missions before pushing out another installer.

By the way, the GOG release has a unique problem with the skirmish mode: http://www.xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3008/viewtopic.php?p=147933#p147933
Whenever you switch between the skirmish simulator and concourse the last used skirmish settings are gone. This isn't happening in the original CD version. I have already reported this to GOG support.

Dayum, I was so excited to see this thread so far up, and then it's just a clarifcation... Thanks anyway, though! :D

Man I cannot wait for the new compatible XWAU version! Thanks for all the hard work and updates
Have been trying for a couple of days to get this working - no dice! I'm massively jonesing for the new XWAU version to be released.

Hats off to everyone working on it, by the way!
In case anyone was wondering: The single mods work (at least for me, so far). Thing is, there are 99 single mods you have to single-handedly download and apply to your game. It's not as comfortable as the Pack Installer (and doesn't include the newest additions of said patch), but at least you'll have nice backdrops and high res cockpits and exteriors. So, if you in for downloading lots and lots of 1-6 MB files and clicking through 99 installers - worth a shot!
The link is dead right now, is there a mirror around ?

Also, does this fix the music skipping bug ?
I haven't had skipped music yet. I also have to revise my statement: The remodeled Azzameen Family Base seems to cause problems (in my case a crash when loading the game world).

You can find all the mods at www.xwaupgrade.com

Use the menu on the left to navigate to the downloads section.

The XWAU Craft Pack shouldn't be mirrored as there are known crashes which are directly related to its content. Also, Darksaber is around here and I assume he would't be pleased if you mirror the pack without his or the XWAU Project team's permission. ;)

Yo, fellow pilots.

I may have discovered a solution for the crashing.
I am using the latest install file from GOG and the last available Craft Pack - The 1.1 version.

I installed XWA from GOG and installed the Craft Pack. By doing just this I encountered regular crashes in the first mission which includes Planetary Fighters. So I went for a manual fix - I downloaded the individual Planetary Fighter addon from the project's website, installed it and I had no crashes so far. So, in conclusion - manually installing the Planetary Fighter after installing the XWAU CP fixed stuff for me.

Hope this helps.
Just a heads up. Darksaber did it and we were able to release version 1.2 of the XWAU Craft Pack. This should hopefully be now bug free. Head over to www.xwaupgrade.com to grab the newest patch.

Should you run into any issues, have any comments regarding the patch or just want to praise Darksaber and JérémyaFr be sure to drop by in the forum.
