Just bought XWA, wich is the best sim I've never played, and runs perfectly. Anyway,, I can understand english language, but I've grown playing this game in spanish. I have also the original CD from XWA.

Question is (I suppose the same goes to other languages), there's a way with the gog version to swicth to another language if I own that voices/text from the original CDS?

Thanks GOG for this amazing release, and all the people who can guide me with this

Regards.

Experiment with this, but if I remember correctly, I believe you can just copy the .wav files from your installation CD over to your GOG XWA directory and overwrite the original files, and everything will be as you remember it. :)

I'm going off of memory here, but I think most of the wav files are found in the FRONTRES and WAVE folders. There's also a .lst file in your Spanish language version, located in the X-Wing Alliance root directory that you can copy over so that your text will be translated into Spanish as well. I can't recall its name though.

I have located the wavs, but I can't find the LST file you told me, but there's several trough several directories...

Any more help? :P
My bad. It's the XWA.tab file that you need to copy over.
Hi Chris, you're right, I've found XWA.tab in my CD, and has about 10k strings in spanish, that's the good news.

Bad news are it seems that this file doesn't exist in the gog version.

Ah, for other, XWA.tab is located in the original CDS under the INSTALL directorie.

As far as I know, XWA.tab is only included on translated versions of XWA, not on the English one.

That's correct, the english versions do not have it, as FekLeyrTang says, because the game's default English doesn't need to be translated if you have the English version. Place XWA.tab in the X-WingAlliance root, and this will cause the game to use XWA.Tab for all text strings, meaning everything will appear in Spanish.

Thanks Chrisw10 and FekLeyrTarg. I've marked the question as solved!

Resuming (For any language), for changing all lthe language (Always replacing and doing backup):

1st: Copy from your CD all the /WAVE directory to the same directory in the gog version (Voices in your language)

2nd: Copy from your CD, the XWA.tab from the /INSTALL directory to the root directory in the gog version (Text in your laguage)

3rd: Copy from your CD all the files within the /ALLIANCE/MOVIES to the /MOVIES directory in the gog version (Some videos with your language.

4th: Copy from your CD all the files within the /MOVIES to the /MOVIES directory in the gog version (The rest of cutscenes videos with your language.

That's it! I did that, and it seems I have all the game in my language, spanish.

Thanks again!
You're welcome! :D
I agree. You're definitely welcome. :)
I really don't get why GOG only has the english version. Afaik all rights to everything regarding SW is now at Disney so Disney has the rights and GOG could have bought them along with the game.

Worked for me in my german version, BUT I don't recommend using the XWA.tab for changing text language while using XWAU Craft Pack v1.2 at the same time. The space beckgrounds then are displayed wrong.

I was satisfied with spoken german language and texts in englisch.

I also recommend everybody using the XWAU Craft Pack v1.2 for GOG-Version and XWA Hacker for changing resoultion above 1600x1200. Looks great in native resolution. Best space sim ever. :-)
