I'm stuck on Tour of Duty 4 Mission 18. I can't for the life of me figure out exactly what is shooting at me. The camera's no use because it plays back too fast to be of any help. Is there a way to slow down the camera feedback to be near real time like it once was?

Try using the numpad keys to change your view. "2" changes your view in cockpit to look behind you, so you can see anyone shooting at you. As for the recording playback going to fast, I have no idea how that can be fixed (I noticed the same issue sadly, since I wanted to take screenshots).

I would also recommend reading the collector's guide, which shows some hints for that mission.

I wish this board had a spoiler tag....

*SPOILER* (hints from guide for Tour 4 - Op 18)

"As an alternate strategy, you can stay ouside the mines and corvettes when the mission begins, and dogfight the bombers until none remain. This lets you go after the corvettes and Gunboats without being harassed by the Bombers. Also note that disabling any one of the GUN Lambda triggers the launch of three Imperial shuttles. To delay the shuttles arrival as long as possible, attack each Gunboat and weaken its shields, and then go back to each for the final disabling.

Other hints: TIE Bomber Gamma 1 has missiles.

There is also a longer 'main' strategy detailed in the guide, which involves taking out the Corvettes as soon as possible, then the mines, then any remaining Bombers.

I managed to beat it by the "skin of my teeth" as the saying goes.

I had my wingman and I attack the first corvette head on. He weakened it, I disabled it, then he destroyed it. I saved two torpedoes and had us go after the second corvette and I disabled it. Then I got pissed off by being shot at multiple times so I figured if there was invisible lasers I may as well eliminate the mines. I did that and I noticed on the map that my wingman and a tie bomber were about 6km away. I turned to engage that bomber and immediately told my wingman to go evasive. Doing this took us out of the corvette's range. We eliminated all tie bombers and then I used my other two torpedoes to disable the corvette. Unfortunately other bombers kept coming, so I had my wingman target the corvettes while I hit the respawing bombers. Once the bombers were eliminated I disabled the gunboats and nearly got completely destroyed by the shuttles. My wingman hyperspaced out (what a jerk!) while I was fighting the shuttles. I disabled them all, waited for the mission complete message, blew up every remaining imperial craft, and hypered out when it was noted that three imperial corvettes had showed up. **** that ****.
