It has been a while since I have used the associated software that comes with the products discussed, but I found that most, if any, didnt allow for the in-depth (versatile?) multitask programing I required. And lets face it, the more functions that can be programmed to a single button/trigger/pedal etc the better...especially for this series of games.

So, let me expand upon what I said.
For most old games and even new ones, there are those who go into the game settings and alter everything to their liking. This can work against intentions.
Over the years I have added and removed devices and the associated software, added and removed games/sims/apps...and the one thing that hasnt changed is xpadder and the profiles I have been creating. Generally speaking, the games dont even have to recognise my hardware for me to use any controller I want with any game I have.
If ever xpadder stops working and I find a bit of software that does the same thing then I may switch.
Until then I will enjoy the ability to have single-press, multi-press, staged, cycled, macroed, adjustable repeat, rumble control, timed, zoned, etc, etc functions for all my games (with any number of controllers) with xpadder...without the bloat.

I dont suggest one software title over another, use pinnacle game profiler if you like it more.
Also, I dont often purchase $300 controllers all that often (must be 10 years now) to know what they have added to the programming software, but if they have added functionality in recent years to truly compete with xpadder (or the like)...then use that.

But still...each to their own =)

I think the more on-topic part I was talking about was the use of two joysticks in a similar configuration to what is depicted in the screen-cap. Set them up anyway you like with any software you like ;)

I know what xpadder does, but the user already has the controllers in question (there is another similar topic in the Tie Fighter specific forum) so they might as well use the free software that comes with them instead of spending other money (last I checked xpadder was £6 or something like that) on a software that does precisely the same things.

I don't know which $300 controller you had but sincerely CH Control Manager doesn't feel bloated at all, it's very light and allows to save profiles which can be backupped easily.

Using two joysticks just isn't possible in Tie Fighter for DOS because it has only pitch and yaw and no native throttle support, you can have roll by pressing button two on the stick but this excludes the yaw axis making impossible to yaw and roll at the same time even with a script.

Relax
Stop stressing

One of the major things about asking advice is receiving it and doing what you want with it. Take as much as needed or none at all.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand...
My advice for the yoke - dont. I tried it for something similar and it was a huge mistake.
If you want an experience something along the lines of the graphic supplied and want to get creative, I looked in to those metal frame swinging cockpits that swing when you apply force to the stationary/rigid joystick...if you were to use two hand-holds in place of the single joystick you may get something akin to the pic.
Just depends on the level of creativity you wish to use - not a bad hobby project though.

For setting up bindings/maps for controllers I suggest youtube (if you have nothing else to go by) - so many people want to help do so many things. Just search YT for "CH Flight Sim Yoke" to start and go from there.

'ave a good'n

Ciao
