Okay I've heard all about duplicating pilot data so that I don't lose all his experience points with a death or capture. However when I duplicated the application and stored it on a completely different partition on my HD, it SHOULD have treated that as though it were a completely independent application along with all its data. Now I just lost a Top Ace pilot because of a ****** glitch and both the original and duplicate register him as dead!!!

Seriously where on an Apple OS is the pilot data stored and how can I alter a pilot's stats? Thus far the only thing I get under 'X-wing' in a basic search of my drive is the application itself. Where dose this application store the data? Thanks for your time.

Assuming this is for X-Wing 93/94, FAQ and solutions for known issues (DOS / Boxer):
Q: Where can I find my Boxer (DOS) game's save files?
To access your saved games, go to Applications -> Terminal
In Terminal, paste, or type in, the following line and press Enter (Return):
open ~/"Library/Application Support/Boxer/Gamebox States"
Find your game's folder. The package containing your save files is located inside.
Wow. That's a mess of files... probably what happens when you use an emulator. I appreciate the link and will be trying this out. I have found the pilot files by name, but have yet to format and figure out how it works. Will let you know how that goes.
I started keeping a duplicate of my pilot in my documents folder. And I duplicate him again after every successful mission. You can also duplicate your pilot, rename him (or her) and use them as more experienced wingmen!

Wow, I've finally decided to try this game again with your helpful advice (Gydion + Spidey) and it's a completely different experience. Still I hate doing a full mission and then ramming (or being rammed) by some gunship or transport, destroying my otherwise completely healthy X-wing... and then being captured or killed. I wouldn't mind having my scores lowered for losing TOD craft, but I hate how you lose everything in an instant.

PS: Can anyone confirm whether selecting Top Ace pilots for missions has any impact on the AI skills of wingmen? I have noticed that missile-armed enemies tend to wipe out my Ace pilots very effectively. And if that weren't bad enough, they get captured and I have to replace their pilot files ever so frequently. What were the programers thinking when they made this game? It's old but some very easy fixes could have made the game much more survivable... pun intended.
