I know this is a dumb question, but I'm kind of computer stupid. Can the game work fine even with a slower processor? Mine is 1.70 ghz.

i'm running both versions perfectly on a 900mhz celeron, so yes, your 1,7ghz system will do more than fine.

these high requirements are just set for support reasons. gog doesnt want to fiddle around with users using computers from the stoneage.

Even though the games are from the stone age. :D

Yeah, but they're being emulated through DOSBox, which has much higher requirements than the original game actually running through DOS.

What OS are you running? If you're still on XP or lower then you can probably get away with running it through DOS (or VDMSound) directly instead of DOSBOX, or at least use the Windows version

for god's sake, stop that!

1.7 ghz is perfectly fine for this game, no matter if its the 1998 or the 1994 dosbox version.
If I could play X-wing 98 and X-wing vs. TIE Fighter, which I think uses the same engine, on a 133 Mhz, 24 MB RAM machine in 1998, you shouldn't have a problem with 1.7 Ghz. :P
Quite frankly a processor's clock rate is not a good metric for how well a CPU runs, anyways. An i7 at 1.7GHz would still be far faster than, say, a Pentium 3 at 1.7GHz.

EDIT: Speaking of, a Pentium 3 can run this game in DOSBOX just fine, people have tried it over at VOGONS. So you're definitely fine!

Well, I bought it anyway and am going to play it tonight. Figured 10 bucks is worth the gamble.
I wouldn't worry about that. When it comes to really old games, Gog doesn't really provide the actual minimum requirements on the gamecard. That 1.8ghz thing is probably referring to the least powerful machine they run tests on.

I'm sure you'll be fine.
