The game recognizes the Warthog Stick and I can map all the buttons, but get nothing when it come to throttle movement or the buttons. Anyone figured out how to fix this? I was really hoping I would not have use the Thrustmaster "Target" software to write a full set of files just for Tie Fighter.

Thanks for any help

Those sticks are meant to be programmed. At a minimum you'll need to specify what axis pertains to what output joystick axes, as well as set up the 2 buttons it uses. While you're at it, you might as well set up all the buttons to map to the keys the stick uses. Realistically, I doubt there's any way around this. I use a CH Fighterstick and it requires this to work properly.

Try the attached profile - I think I picked it up somewhere on the web and may have made a few mods of my own (been a while since I used it). Definitely works with the original releases, and I think it should work with GoG, as it is based on key mappings, so no issue with settings resetting to default on launch.

Change file extension from .jpg to .fcf to allow loading in TARGET (I'm hoping this will work).

Cheers,

Larry

Thanks, using your file the game now recognizes the throttles although only going from 0 to 33%, to 66%, to 100% instead of at steady increments but that is a lot better then no throttles at all.

Really appreciate the help

It's been a long time since I played, but I'm pretty sure this is the default mapping for a throttle.

From what I can remember, this in combination with match target speed (enter, mapped to one of the throttle buttons) should be enough for a good game.

You may be able to get what you want by breaking the throttle range into bands and triggering a "-" or "+" as you fall/rise through the band. I have vague memories of trying this (YMMV), but I think I had a problem with X-wing not processing events fast enough, at which point I gave up :-(. I'm also not sure how much granularity the -/+ gives you - may not get better than thirds anyway.

Cheers,

Larry
Using the + & - keys gives you 3% increments in thrust; I did play around using AXmaping with the + / - keys using the Thrustmaster Target programing software but it was very hit and miss as to when that would kick in. And there must be a difference in coding because when I use your profile in X-Wing I do get the gradual throttle movement.

Thanks for your help

In TARGET, you'll want to make it a combined device with the throttle axis as the third axis, that's the one it looks at for throttle. make sure in the Windows joy.cpl that you click Advanced and select the "Thrustmaster Combined" device too for the game to use it

However, the game's throttle only works in 33% increments using the joystick axis, so you're better off making the throttle press the + and - keys for more gradual changes. The throttle in the game has 32 steps. Binding the Bksp, [, ], and \ keys on your other throttle axis helps the throttle be more responsive as well
