I've noticed a couple threads on here so far with people wondering why their game crashes when they try and load into a game, so I figured it might be useful to have a thread here letting people know how to fix.

The vast majority of crashes are due to users putting bump-mapping on high, which is not supported on modern graphics cards. Set this option to low, and the game will run fine.

See the PCGamingWiki article for more info, and also how to do things such as apply widescreen resolution, field of view settings, etc

Thank you SO MUCH for this final piece of information with the bump-mapping.

I was trying the widescreen + FOV modification only, and it constantly kept crashing, even with a new and plain installation.
Now everything works just fine :)

It is a setting in game. Go to options -> graphics -> bumpmapping quality and set it to low.

OK thanks.
Thanks you so much for posting this! Wish GOG would include these instructions or disable that setting.
