Rebellion runs fine until I get into the 3D space battle mode. Then the game becomes very unresponsive. When I try to rotate the battle scene it only rotates once every 10 seconds or even more. Same goes for pressing the buttons on the battle interface. Does anyone know a fix?

I'm running a :

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26GHz

4.00 GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS 1 GB

Windows Vista 64
Sadly this was what happened to Supremacy/Rebellion some time after Windows XP arrived. I haven't seen a solution for it and suspect it stems from the older memory requirements of the game and the way the Windows kernel has changed and the game not dealing well with this.

If anyone has found a way round it I'd be very happy to hear also as it totally ruins the game after a certain level of ships are involved.

Yeah it makes the game unplayable and eliminates a huge part of the experience. You are forced to auto resolve the battles.

I tried running it in Win 98 compatability mode but it didnt help.
Disagree about it being a universal issue. I can't reproduce the problem (XP, Vista, 7 on both a desktop and laptop with ATI dedicated graphics), but I haven't tried with 64-bit yet. The CD version I have worked fine with Geforce cards, in addition to ATI models. GOG seem to have fixed the infrequent crash to desktop I had with space battles and the disc version.

I've had one CTD so far with the GOG release, a lot lower than what I remember.
I find that the appropriate question here is why you're not auto resolving? Those battles were never enjoyable. I did enter one by mistake in my Empire campaign earlier though and it was working fine.... If you can call that fine at all I suppose.

This. the tactical mode never did work very well. A nice idea that just did not work.

Indeed. I remember auto-resolving battles back in 1999-2000 when the game was still new. Manual battles were always lukewarm affairs. While they sound interesting in theory, in practice battles leave a lot to be desired. Anyone wishing to play Admiral should go with Empire at War instead of Rebellion. The latter is all about the big picture.
