Hey LePeureux, just curious. What would you say are your favorite rpgs or crpgs?
@Peter How is that even an argument lmao. If its about playing your own character why even add sidekicks at all? Im sorry but games older than this (BG) allow you to move every party member easily. Am I supposed to let the rest of the party die to a grenade blast because the game doesnt allow me to tell them to scatter/duck just so I can RP my character?

You can also see it this way : The main character you RP shouts orders to the squad to command them just like a leader would.

@slayerming2 Same question was previously asked and answered

Ah sorry about that. Just curious, have you played the witcher 2 and 3? If so, why are you a bigger fan of the first one? Could never get into that one due to the combat.

They are there mainly for story and conversation, not to create some kind of tactical chess game.

Bioware games are mainly renowned for Story and Characters, not tactical combat.

When people fondly remember Baldurs Gate it is because of:

"Go for the eyes Boo!"

Not:

"Char1: Attack enemy 4 with longbow, Char2: Move 4 spaces toward Enemy 3, Char3: cast fireball on enemies 1,2,3 .... etc ad nauseam.

RPGs have Long since moved beyond the tedium of turn based control of the minutia of combat into a telling a great story where you get to roll play a central roll, and combat is meant to be fun and dynamic (though you can still pause and switch control to a different character if there is a need).

It's a move for the better, for most people.

If you want 1980s-1990's style throwback games. Check out Divinity: Original Sin. It exists for those nostalgic for old school big party turn based combat.

As for not being able to enjoy KOTOR, That is your loss.

It's a fantastic game, that I am haven't played in almost a decade and am having a great time in again. I probably played 20 hours on the long weekend. 1 Star Map to go!
Both Kotor games are great roleplaying games. But they do kind of suck in the beginnings. Taris\Telos are boring as heck. Both games get way better once you get the freedom to travel around as you wish.

Having just completed a play through, I disagree.

IMO, only the minutes you spend in tutorial mode on the Space station is really tedious.

Taris is nearly as big as some smaller modern games all on it's own. There are multiple areas, that you can move freely between.

It took 10 hours of game time to move to the next stage of the game. It does get more interesting after Taris, but I didn't find Taris boring.

Peragus before Telos too. Even worse.

I haven't played KOTOR2 in years, but I really don't remember it being that bad. KOTOR2 has problems everywhere from a rushed release.

As for KOTOR1, the space station last about 10 minutes, after that the tutorial mode was essentially over and I was having fun. Not exactly hardship.

Yeah the space station bit in Kotor1 is no biggie at all. Never had any problems with it at all. Taris and Telos (especially Telos) really defeats my willpower to replay the games.

I agree regarding Telos. It is really dull and feels unpolished and empty. I hoped tha restoration mod will change that but it does not. To me this is the worst part of KOTOR games. It really discourages you from replaying KOTOR 2. On the other hand, I found Taris and Peragus fun.

Taris could be richer in characters and quests but as the first planet it was pretty good. Peragus felt as the only part of KOTOR 2 that were really filled with background story (a lot of details, interesting story). All other places felt unfinished at one point or the other (not to mentioned being bugged...).

Taris feels way more alive - agreed. And I like the soundtrack too.
You guys are really killing my enthusiasm to replay KOTOR 2.

I had fun replaying KOTOR 1, maybe I should just stop there.

Edit:

You guys are absolutely right.

I started playing KOTOR 2, and it started coming back to me. Peragus is a chore.

IMO they made it maze like with lots of running back and forth, to pad the game play length. But it is pretty tedious to play. There is almost nothing of consequence or value here. I started looking for a Skip-Peragus mod 20 minutes in, but couldn't find one.

When I finally made it through to Telos, as soon as I saw those corridors memories came back to me of how much I disliked Telos.

Telos is by far the worse. Fetch quests in endless sterile corridors.

Will to play is failing.

Yeah. KotORII is a nigh insufferable slog on repeat playthroughs. If you can just get past peragus and telos... you're free and clear. But man that's tens of hours of godawfully boring.
Peragus, Telos and Nar Shadaar are the very most pace killers in KotoR 2. It's compounded by the overall DOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM theme of the game, it's relentless. Oh and the droid factory is terribly dull as well if you have the RCM installed. Repeat playthroughs just get less interesting, as even with the mod it simply just wasn't finished.

KotoR 1 is a bit standard Star Wars story and they fucked the levelling system too. I have to deliberately not level up beyond level 3 to get some Jedi in as the cap is 20. That said I don't find any particular part of the game a drag and played it far more than 2. Oh apart from Carpet Warehouse, screw wookies they make for the most annoying part of the galaxy.
Well, thanks to endless rain (40 year river levels and floods here), I finished Kotor II.

Not as good as KOTOR 1. Too much feels like filler meant to pad length, which increases frustration level.

Peragus and Telos are major joy killers right off the start.

I really didn't like the times it forces you to play as different characters. I don't want to play the other characters... Especially the damn droid sequence on Nar Shaddaa. Maybe do this once for novelty factor. But it was overdone.

I never encountered the Droid factory. Also don't blame the game for including that crappy content. That was a fan decision, and thus shows my problem with using fan content. I played KOTOR 2 the first time without fan content. I think I had more problems this time using TSLRCM.
