... And I'm wondering which mods I should use. Being a firm proponent of going strictly vanilla on the first playthrough, I'm not really looking to go wild on the second. Bugfixes and cut content are more than good enough for me, and I can do just fine without widescreen support or hi-res textures unless those take little to no effort to get working.

So I'm pretty sure I'm going to want this, and something that fixes the botched romance, provided it's not already included there (SPOILER: I had that happen to me on the first playthrough. Had to run a lightsaber through the poor wench. Sad story. END OF SPOILER). I guess there is no restoration for the cut Korriban content, so I'm O.K. with that.

Anyway, if there are other mods of any kind that you guys'd highly recommend, I'd be glad to read about 'em, as long as you can guarantee they will not utterly (or even slightly) bork the game. BTW, I intend to use the Steam version on Windows 8.1. I guess it is already patched to version 1.03?

May the Schwartz be with you.

EDIT: O.K., looks like the first thing I need to do before I consider modding is get the damn thing to run properly. This is how the game looks for me out of the "box". I've tried the widescreen fixes suggested elsewhere, but to no avail (they do get my game running in widescreen, but they don't fix the issue with the image not scaling properly). So, any ideas? I mean, other than uninstalling it and trying to run it in an older PC with XP (which I already intend to do some time in order to replay some other old games).

EDIT 2: So I've figured out what was wrong. As it happens, I use 150% graphic scaling (or whatever the English name for that option is) on my Windows 8.1 rig rather than the standard 125%. That seems tu utterly bork the scaling on some games. Just setting it back to 125 before launching the game or going to compatibility mode and disabling the scaling thingamajig should do the trick, in case anyone else ever had that issue. So now the game seems to run just fine (only went as far as the first coupla minutes in the tutorial, but up to then, no problem), which brings me back to my original question. To summarize:

- Bug fixes (specially the romance thing) and/or cut content: Which mods do I need?

- Widescreen: I tried UNIWS and it seemed to work. The question is how unstable it will make the game, and how likely I am to encounter the grass issue. Because I guess I'd rather have a stable, grassy game in 4:3 than an ugly mess in widescreen.

- Other cool stuff: Which mods d'ya guys recommend?

There are some major texture enhancements out there you could get on ModDB, Deadly Stream, and maybe The Nexus which can help with adding a lot of nicer surroundings for you to look at, and aren't too hard to do really. One of the guys on The Deadly Stream has texture enhancements for different areas and stuff that requires a program called XnView to implement (since it isn't drag and drop into the game's override folder like a number of mods). But really it's quite simple to do with the mod instructions for those and adds a lot of high quality textures. There's also a mod on Deadly Stream (also posted on Nexus too I think) which adds higher quality skyboxes to the game.

There are a few mods on Deadly Stream and Nexus which add in different or additional heads for character creation, so search for that on those sites and you could find a few of those for extra options in character creation.

Widescreen once you figure out how to implement it correctly works mostly fine for both games, a bit more smoothly for KOTOR 2 though since parts of the UI actually scale up like the inventory screen for the higher resolution, whereas for KOTOR 1 you can only get that to happen for movies/cutscenes which requires a bit of time consuming work. Widescreen itself wasn't that hard for me to do and I only started modding my game to get ready for my first playthrough on PC like a week ago.

There's a mod out there that changes character creation where it allows you more options for customization and changes Persuade into a class skill for all 3 starting classes (which is how I feel it should have been to start with Persuade). Since the playable character is the only one that levels up Persuade being able to succeed at those dialogue options regardless of class makes the most sense to me. It's on Deadly Stream too, you can find a number of mods on there that add a number of cosmetic things to your game and most are easy to install.
