The same is with me too, except that the game doesn't display the text so I don't know what to do

costrav: KotOR II (Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords) *still does not work*

I have tried *everything*, from making changes in the .ini file to cancelling frame buffer effects.

I have also tried running it as administrator.

I have also tried changing the affinity (from the Processes tab of the Task Manager).

****These are just examples of what I tried****.

I am running Windows 7, 64 bit.

Stilll, the game does not work.

IMPORTANT: By "the game does not work" I mean that it crashes right after character creation.

I have also tried renaming the .bik files.

And so on.

I play games old and new on my computer, so I really don't think it is my computer that is the problem.

I have also tried downloading varios patches for KotOR 2. Still nothing.

Any good advice please? PLEASE?

scientiae: Do you have an Integrated Graphics system (i.e., the pc has no extra graphics card, e.g., an old laptop without a GPU)?

I managed to work around this problem, but not with the GOG version.

(I'm still working to resolve this, but not in any timely fashion, as I can play the game with my European retail copy, patched to US — the GOG version seems to be the US commercial release — and with the lost content added via the TSLRCM, a third-party mod that restores the content which had been cut from the final version owing to a lack of time to finish the game before its Christmas release).
I'm working with an Intel graphics card. I've gone through all the steps including the .ini change (it was already set to 0), and nothing is working for me. How'd you fix it?

I re-installed my CD-based version. :/
So now, unless I want to play Rome: Total War (which is the only other game I play that requires a play disc in the drive, since I replaced my catalogue with GoG DRM-free versions), my CD drive contains the play disc for KotOR][—TSL.

It's not ideal, but I didn't want to mess with my stable configuration too much, since I don't play this game very often. (I'm half-way through my first grey alternative, as I explore the destruction of the Old Republic under my character's gubernatorial whims …)

I keep a weather eye on this thread to check if someone else has solved this problem for an integrated graphics chip. (There may be a driver to download, from Intel, to fix this. I read a thread about it somewhere here … I'm not sure what the driver solves, since I didn't download it.)

Good luck!
i got mine to work after turning off frame buffer and soft shadows.
I could make it work in a Virtual Box VM with Debian Jessie 32 bits and wine. In settings must have 128 M of video memory and allowance of 3d and 2d acceleration.

If this is still a problem, you might try to disable the Intel integrated graphics (incorporated in the CPU) which the game will erroneously prioritize ahead of any dedicated GPU you might have installed. See answer here.

TeChNoWC: Yeah, I have the exact same problem.
Did the fix work?
When I install kotor2 from the original CDs and patch it to 1.0b it works just fine but the GOG version just crashes after intro movie.

to my memory Windows 7, like all newer than XP has "Ransomware protection" in defender. this interferes with games in general! you need to disable it or set a rule to allow the game in! Also if you use a browser guard or have overdone seurity in BIOS this is a no go in games! These overdone programs are not good anyway and in games can prevent them from running or they run erratically. save game features will work correctly and opening to gameplay from the title screen if you turn off all this paraphenilia aside from basic Defender protectoin and firewall.
I fixed it downloaded some files from YouTube

Okay.

Perhaps the name of the file/s might help someone else perusing this topic looking for answers …?
