Hey, so this issue bugs me a lot. I've got both of these games on my Windows 10 laptop, and I'm having black screen issues and crashing on video issues as well. I have no idea what to do and researching this has not helped. Can someone please help me? This is very confusing.
Also, if mods are a factor at all, I want to use the mods Kotor Restoration (Kotor) and TSLRCM + M478EP (Kotor 2).

It only happens on 2 videos in the game. Once just after creating your character when starting a new game. And once on Manaan after you make a critical decision. All you need to do to fix it is to Alt+Tab to desktop (or hit the windows key) and then click the running game icon on the taskbar to bring the game back to full screen. The video will automatically restart and will now show correctly.

Also make sure you disable "Soft Shadows" and "Frame Buffer Effects" in the advanced graphics options to stop the game crashes. These two issues are well documented in these forums. Including here:

I've been able to solve this problem throughout the game; however, I'm at a spot on the unknown planet that once I enter the North Beach and take a few steps toward the settlement, it goes black and cannot be brought back even though the game sounds and everything are continuing and I can click on the top of my screen to see the map. etc. I've tried several reboots and reloads of previous saves, and the same thing happens at the same spot. There isn't even a movie or conversation sequence that starts; it's right after you move from the Central Beach to the North Beach and advance a few steps. I can't continue the game past this point and any help wold be appreciated. I tried changing the graphics settings but that also did nothing. Thank you!!!

So sometimes it works that if you set your party members' armor and weapons to 'none' then it will load the next screen. Bizarre I know but it worked for the scene when I was fleeing the Leviathan and when I was going to North Beach.

I've been able to solve this with alt-tab, right click on the game in the tray, and tell it to close. It pops up with a confirmation in game, and the graphics fixed. It's still frustrating, as it breaks any sense of immersion, but the graphics adjustment doesn't help, so...
