Is there a trick to it?

I wait for the battle music to end. Then I walk away from bodies (both the ones produced by the battle and the potential "furniture" containers). Then I walk back a few steps to make sure my party mates aren't obscuring anything. Then I pass my cursor over the scene a few times.

And still I miss stuff. I have to go back into the sewers of Taris because I missed something in one of the furniture containers. And I looked really hard the first time. Is there some key to hit to make them pop up? Or a way to look for things that is better than what I'm doing?

I've found using the Keys for "Select Previous (Left)" and "Select Next (Right)" [Q and E by default] helps finding things on the ground, but only within the selectable range of your Character.

I used to remember you can hold down a key to show names of objects on the screen, but I may be confusing the sequel or another game altogether.
Ah Q&E is the answer to my question. I thought they were only for use in combat.
