russellskanne: You could also try to fiddle with the "seta s_ ... " values in your jk2config.cfg (e.g. for poolsize and sampling frequency).
lschiel: Playing with these settings didn't have any effect. I've removed my X-Fi card and started running on the onbaord audio. I'm not noticing any trouble with this config per se, but now I don't seem to be getting any sound from my rear speakers. Can't win for losing! It may be time to ressurect an old Windows XP machine.
Try using Creative ALchemy from here:

I've got a blaster Z and the EAX effects are working with ALchemy but with errors. Too many sounds going at once but that was happening without EAX effects enabled. Seems to be just GOG version the cd version patched doesn't have this problem.
