Hi all --

First off, sorry in advance because I'm sure this question is posted almost constantly. I bought the Steam "Jedi Knight" collection during the holiday sale and as you all know, "Jedi Knight" and "Mysteries of the Sith" are a complete catastrophe. It seems like the versions here work much, much better - but even when going through reviews and on the board there still seem to be some people who say they don't work at all on modern systems.

So before I spent another couple of bucks to buy two games that once again don't work, I just want to ask very simply:

Do the versions of Jedi Knight and/or Mysteries of the Sith available here work fine on Windows 10 right this second? What's the general consensus?

I can deal with it looking a little wonky, or controlling weird, or taking awhile to launch. I just want to make sure that it's possible to play.

Thanks.

They work "fine", but require some tinkering/setup before you can play comfortably.
This thread describes all the hoops I had to jump through to get them to work. But it's all doable.
They sometimes crash, but not too often.
Also, hardware acceleration won't work, you'll have to settle for software renderer, which means the games won't look their best ever.

I'm not sure if that meets your definition of "fine". Personally, I'd put it under "good enough".

"Good enough" is fine by me. I was really disappointed when the Steam version turned out to be such a catastrophe, so if it can run at all I'm thrilled.

Basically, so long as I can play and beat it, it's great, haha.
For Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 you need to download dgVoodoo2 from here:

http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2.html

Copy paste the DLL files from the MS folder into your Jedi Knight folder (e.g. c:\GOG Games\Star Wars Jedi Knight - Dark Forces 2) and run the dgVoodooSetup.exe. Configure any stuff you want from the DirectX tab.

Disable any compatibility options you may have enabled, you don't need them and they may interfere with dgVoodoo2.

Then run the game, create profile, etc and from Setup go to Display and click on "Enable 3D acceleration". Select a 4:3 resolution from the list and press Ok.

The game should run perfectly, or at least as good as it did back when it was new. Music, sounds, 3D acceleration, etc work perfectly fine here. From dgVoodoo2's panel you can even enable a couple of extra effects like antialiasing.

Note that if you choose a very high resoluton you'll have tiny UI in game. Also note that dgVoodoo2 needs a fast GPU. Although for JK you might be fine since it has very simple geometry. The latest version (2.5) has a dynamic shader compilation option that should speed up things in case it is slow for you, but i haven't tried it. Read the README.
For me MotS works fine when you go into the Folder and start the normal .exe instead of the GOG one.

It's completely fucked. Don't even bother. You need at least 3-4 fixes to get it to work and that is a maybe. Not worth the time or trouble. Dark Forces 1 is actually playable compared to this.
Works fine. No problems at all on my end. It's the best versions available rightnow.

I agree! Even with dgvoodoo Dark Forces II runs like shit in 3d-hardware mode.
As of TODAY, it works okay.

I don't have 3D hardware acceleration on (tried that and 4k and my game just crashed) and I'm playing at 768p, but it's great. Just as I remember it. Getting in and out of the pause menu seems to take a couple seconds longer than it should, but fuck it, I'm enjoying my childhood.

Now to see if the Massassi Temple is still up and if i can play as Boba Fett
They don't run for me when launched through Galaxy. They work when I start them directly. Software mode, I didn't try running them in hardware mode.
