IronArcturus: Ok, I set the patch launcher to run in a window, but when I launch the game from the patched JK.exe, it's still stuck in fullscreen. What else do I need to do?
avatar
teleguy: Make sure you selected the right folder at the top of the controlpanel. Also ingame you have to choose a resolution lower than your monitors native one or the window will fill the entire screen.
I did both of those things and it's still fullscreen only. How are you launching the game?

Trank209: Did you play in 3d mode?

Also for anyone who wants to test framerate, you can just type t (talk button) and then TAB (Will change chat to console), then type framerate.

Dicetrain: As in for 3D glasses or something? No. But I did play in 3D acceleration on. I found a different fix that works for AMD:

http://www.jkhub.net/project/show.php?projid=597§ion=downloads

And that runs perfectly smooth, but looks really bland compared to this, because this is using all the voodoo lighting effects and such. I just wish everything weren't moving all choppy with this. Is it something set in the configuration of the wrapper, or is it something they did to the executable?
Haha, i didnt mean 3d glasses. I meant 3d acceleration. Im glad you found that AMD fix worked. Which is strange on all of the systems we tested that one didn't work very good.

MarkoH01: For me WineD3D does work. This patch crashes my system (WinXP - 32, NVidie GTX 650Ti) when I try to start the game (tested MotS and JK).
avatar
Trank209: So yeah, we have figured out the patch does not work on XP. Can you not get JK to work on its own on XP. When i ran XP i easily got JK working with a GTX 550 Ti.
avatar
fossilfern: Thanks for the patches but my HUD has disappeared and like someone said earlier the game says its running at 60fps but it doesnt seem that smooth...

Any help?

Trank209: What operating system are using?
Any chance you might still get it to work on XP at some point? Or is it hopeless? I get a Direct3D error when launching the game with the dgvoodoo files. I have yet to experience a system crash. The Wine3D version is pretty choppy performance wise, as I wrote in another thread.

I dont think we can get it to work with XP. But JK should be running fine in XP Do you use AMD or Nvidia?

I'm using the Steam version. Launching the game from Steam forces the -windowgui command line option or you can doubleclick jk.exe to run the game without -windowgui. In both cases dgvoodoo can make the game run in a window on my system but without -windowgui the mouse cursor is at the wrong position.

Edit: Remove the "Behavior" check marks on the DirectX tab and try Alt +Enter ingame.

xxxIndyxxx: anybody else having issues with the fmv's after using the patch (it occasionally hangs for a few seconds now)
avatar
opeter2: Nope. The FMVs and the music is working fine for me.

Computer specs:
- Intel Core i5 3210m
- 16 GB RAM DDR3 1600 MHz
- Intel HD4000
- 256 GB SSD
- WIndows 7 64-bit SP1 (Bootcamp)
hmmm it's definitely the patch though. GOG vanilla has no issue, installing the texture patch and a hud patch has no impact on the fmv but when I install the patch because JK enhanced needs it to work the fmv starts to hang/stutter. Not continously but a few times in a single FMV. This happens a soon as I install the patch and there is no change before or after installing JK enhanced.
I found the dgVoodoo setup app and used it to configure the files in the JK directory. The stuttering issue is totally gone now and the only problem is it's an old game with janky animation (even from the player's movements) and no mouse smoothing lol.

What I did is I check progressive scanline order and enumerate refresh rates, then under Direct X I selected 1280x1024@144hz (since my monitor can do that) to match the in-game resolution I selected. That took care of the smoothness, then I checked force vsync and unchecked the watermark. This made the weird pauses and menu issues clear up. Runs like a dream now!

Edit: Actually I guess I'll have to go 120hz because my monitor won't allow me to set custom aspect ratio at 144hz...

No, it does not but it is depending on your graphic card. NVidia GeForce GTX650 Ti with any driver on XP does not work with HW acceleration either for JK or MOTS. The only way I got them to work on this OS was WineD3D (luckily without performance loss).

Ok, I tried the -windowgui option in the shortcut, but now the window is stuck at 640x480, even though the resolution in both the patch launcher and in the game should be 1280x960. Is there something else I need to do to get the proper resolution? The video card is an nVidia.

Also, can you tell me which version is the JKII Steam version and is there a way I can figure out which version GOG is using?

Do you just highlight the main directory with the programme?

It says it's 1.0.1.0. Just hovering your mouse over jk.exe should show what version it is but there are probably differences even if the number is the same.

Did you try loading a level? It should switch to 1280x960 at that point.

Well the game caused a black screen again and it crashed. When it does this, I have to restart the whole computer. I wish there was a way to just force the game to run in windowed-mode only. It keeps wanting to go back to fullscreen.

XP + Nvidia (GT 220) makes the game look like this :) DDraw.dll from Ultimate causes the game to crash.
Looks like no 3D acceleration for me :)

Wait, the game is not supposed to look like it's 30 fps? It says the game is running at 60 fps when I type in the framerate command but everything other than the weapon model looks like it's at 30. I thought that's just how this engine renders things, and that it can't be fixed.
