Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 Music Wrapper Fix

Fixes a few issues with GoG's CD wrapper i.e:
> Music looping/pausing
> Bar music, etc
> More info here

Download CD Wrapper Fix

Extract to:
C:\GOG Games\Star Wars Jedi Knight - Dark Forces 2
C:\GOG Games\Star Wars Jedi Knight - Mysteries of the Sith

Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 Improved Music

I've ripped these tracks straight off my original CD's with dBpoweramp.

I've meticulously ran each track Adobe Audition CC and removed most/all glitches and as much noise/static as humanly possible.

Tracks have been tagged using appropriate names, cover art etc - based off the in-game level(s) names and when a track is first heard.

They all sound far better than what has been previously available (...18 years ago, urgh!)

MOTS re-uses 13 music tracks from the base game.

Ogg Vorbis
FLAC

Installation:

- Download all the files (including the batch file) from mega.co.nz - I'd recommend selecting all and picking the zipped option.

- Extract to a folder

- Run mots_rename.bat to create the MOTS music files

- Copy the 18 Jedi Knight tracks into the game music folder i.e:
C:\GOG Games\Star Wars Jedi Knight - Dark Forces 2\MUSIC

- Copy the 13 MOTS tracks into the game music folder i.e:
C:\GOG Games\Star Wars Jedi Knight - Mysteries of the Sith\MUSIC

MOTS Bonus level

I've seen instructions for a bonus level posted (which I never knew existed)

Extract this file into your MOTS folder i.e:
C:\GOG Games\Star Wars Jedi Knight - Mysteries of the Sith

LOD (level of detail) texture/model fixes

*** Doh! ***
*** This mod seems to cause a few problems ***
*** I've hidden the links - proceed at your peril! ***

An optional fix for the blurry models and textures at distance - thanks to erimVs - taken from here

Most noticeable will be the stormtrooper heads and far away textures. Screenshots here

Dark Forces missing cutscene (click heading to watch!)

A small cutscene showing Kyle gearing up when starting the game - present in demo release - cut from final game.

Extract this file into your Dark Forces installation folder i.e:
C:\GOG Games\Star Wars - Dark Forces

mwnn: MOTS Bonus level

I've seen instructions for a bonus level posted (which I never knew existed)

I wouldn't get too excited - it's a bit rough around the edges but if you wish to play it:

Extract this file into your MOTS folder i.e:
C:\GOG Games\Star Wars Jedi Knight - Mysteries of the Sith
There is an improved version of the hidden Bespin level (you play Luke Skywalker) where Darth Vader was added to it.
http://www.jediknight.net/editing/bespin.html
I've made a second pass over all the tracks - removing a few tricky glitches and heavy noise on at least two tracks. You'll want to re-download them all.

I've also uploaded the tracks in lossless FLAC format for those of you who might want to burn an Audio CD.

I think this is the best they can sound given the source.

I've been considering whether it's feasible to re-create the tracks using music taken from this album.

The music from Jedi Knight seems to be the film soundtracks chopped up into various bits and re-assembled.

Compare this piece from my cleaned up game tracks to this from the music album.

You can definitely tell a difference but you did a good regardless. :)
I think you should just edit the music from that album to match the game tracks. It wouldn't take that long ands it would provide for a higher quality music experience.

That missing cutscene from dark forces is interesting, was it cut from the original game and left in the files somewhere?

We can only speculate as to why the gear up video got dropped.

Censorship possibly? The German release had several minor censorship changes.

Maybe they simply felt it didn't fit.

It's present in the demo but was disabled for the full game release.

It's a missing file (GEARUP.LFD) taken from the demo with an altered intro playlist (CUTSCENE.LST)

Normally the game would skip straight from the yellow scrolling text to the dark forces logo.

Added the LOD mod taken from here & the Music Wrapper fix to the first post.

Visual improvements for models/objects in the distance. Stormtroopers no longer get square heads from 10 feet away!

Music wrapper solves the issues with looping/pausing music, etc. I should've added it ages ago but it's got buried now under pages of posts.

Interesting, I didn't know there was censorship in the german version, the only thing I can think they would censor are perhaps those skeletons in the second level? Anyways some great resources here, Thanks.

Btw The LOD thing, was that a problem in the original?

It's hard to say - I may've been spoiled by modern games!

When you think that 800x600 or 1024x768 would've been great back then I may've not noticed the difference between a stormtroopers head being round, square or triangular! =D

Looking at footage of the game played on youtube; I can see a bit of swapping.

It could be the higher resolutions & detail of today's games or the fixes GoG have had to use.

The texture/model swapping looks very severe on a few levels and in a few situations when played at 1080p.

Still plays great though =D

The modder didn't claim to have changed the textures/models - he's just made it so the highest quality one is always shown.

Careful with the LOD mod - it works just fine with the original Jedi Knight but with Myteries of the Sith it will NOT LOAD Level 12 and you'll lose your save since you can't load it with the original JKM.GOO file. I already confirmed that it's the LOD mod by cheating myself up to level 12 with the original and the modded file and it only happens with the modded file.

Thanks for letting me know.

The original author has fixed the Level 12 issue.

I've updated the first post with a new link.

Awesome! Thank you for your information and a real big thank you to the mod author for taking the time to fix it.
Thanks for the mots bonus level, liked it a lot. However I'm running into a bug where instead of darth vader you run into dark mara and dark kyle, do you know how to fix that? Thanks
You know I'm not 100% sure but it seems like that's how it was and the modded one added darth vader, the video I watched the guy kept saying it was a bug but he might be wrong.
It's a shame that the music and LOD fixes aren't included in the official download.
