I've experienced this problem as well. If you find a fix please post it! I posted this same question on steam and if I find a solution I'll post.

Delete, uh.. wimm.dll? Something MM.dll, anyway it's caused by a problem with GOGs way of providing CD music without a full ISO. Delete that file and the game will run, but without music.
It's winmm.dll

An alternative winmm.dll was provided in the post below. I don't know if it helps with your issue, but it's something else to try before deleting the file.

unfortunately this didn't fix my issue, the game still shows as a background task rather than a program and does not appear to truly launch :(
When I installed and played Jedi Knight on Win7 it worked nicely. Then I upgraded to win10 and I got those problems, that the OP mentioned. I then uninstalled the game and installed it on Win10 again. Then it actually started and let me play. I still have to figure out the 3D acceleration mode, though.
Same problem on Windows 10 - runs as a background process but no game. Tried re-install, unofficial patch - no luck so far.

Game worked well on Windows 7.

I just downloaded Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. Every launch it just says JK.EXE has stopped working before it opens. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling/redownloading. Nothing works.
