Hello all,

I can successfully run and play Dark Forces on my Windows 11 machine, however, as with all games of that era the keybindings are maddening!

When I attempt to run the "setup.exe" app Windows tells me "This app can't run on your PC". Is there a config file I can manually update?

Apologies if this has been asked before.
I wouldn't know, but I agree that when I play on my laptop, the controls are a major problem. So I would like to know too.

That said, a remaster is being previewed on Steam. I have no idea what they'll do with the game controls for it, but, personally, I'm holding out to find out. (We are talking about Dark Forces 1, aren't we?)

Indeed, we are discussing Dark Forces 1. I am quite looking forward to the remaster, but even still, I want to play through the original before the remaster comes out.

OK figured it out from another post. Essentially you have to run DOSBOX and then run the SETUP to rebind the keys.

Like most games of the DOS era you need to run setup.exe. For this you need to start DOSBOX without autostarting the game. Navigate to the install folder of dark forces, for example C:\GOGgames\Star Wars - Dark Forces. Then goto the DOSBOX folder and start DOSBox.exe
Now we first need to "mount" the location. Enter:

mount c "C:\GOGgames\Star Wars - Dark Forces"

(replace C:\GOGgames with the location on your system)
Enter:

C:

To go to the newly mounted folder, and start the setup:

setup.exe

I thought the setup menu was available among the start menu shortcuts in the game's folder.

But yeah to remap keys you need to run the game setup in dosbox.
