Sadly I am experiencing the same issue since yesterday. The game is working fine but loading the multiplayer freezes it like everyone else is explaining here.
Luckily I can at least shut it down by using the task manager. But it's very upsetting not being able to play online anymore. I mean - that's what I bought the game for :(

Same here.. I just made my friend buy the game from GOG (I already had It) so we can play multiplayer but we couldn't find a way to play It.. Now I am having problems with my friend.. :D Do you guys have any suggestion to fix this thing?

I've been talking to a customer support rep the past few days, they haven't provided any solution yet but I'm sure they're working on it. I sent them a link to this forum post so they've probably read your posts and are aware how widespread this issue is

So, they are clueless.

They said they couldn't reproduce the issue on their end. So I dunno if just a certain number of people are affected or what

Also I checked the Steam community forums, which are far more active than these fourms, and rumor has it someone is crashing the master server by trying to run a server with 0 maximum players. I dunno whether or not it's intentional, or if that's actually what's happening in the first place, but if so hopefully GOG releases a patch soon.

It's possible someone is doing it intentionally, but it could also be that they're simply too ignorant of what they're doing. However, there is good news - a modder known as LeKeks has managed to create a patch which fixes the issue.

LeKeks' BF2 multiplayer crash fix:

1) Back up old BattlefrontII.exe in case you mess up.
2) Open BattlefrontII.exe in hex editor.

That works perfectly! Thanks for your help, you beat the customer support rep to it. I'll leave this thread as unsolved until (hopefully) GOG pushes a patch. I'll message them about it in case they don't know.

Yeah, I recommend emailing them if possible. Need to raise awareness for a potentially game-killing problem
