GOG is really pushing the GOG Galaxy DRM platform as hard as possible. They gave us the untouched original release of Battlefront II that had LAN as an option (setup_sw_battlefront2_2.0.0.5.exe) and now they've removed it from our accounts AGAIN to push their galaxy DRM on us. The time to put our feet down is now.

He is talking about the Galaxy requirement for multiplayer. In the new version you can no longer connect to others without using it. The original Battlefront 2 had an option to specify the address you want to connect, that is probably no longer works because the server runs through of Galaxy. I haven't tried the new version yet but I'm sure there is no server files for hosting a server outside of the Galaxy lobby.

If this is true, I agree with him. This is DRM and I doesn't want it to happen either.

You can't download the installer with the older version of the game
that has this "not working" multiplayer through your browser and the only installer left are now those with the
game that has the multiplayer update (or the update as one standalone file to update your existing game).
Now you can play the game only when you've installed GOG Galaxy too. (just like Pityesz said)

Fortunately I've got the Installer with the older version on my thumbdrive.

So, your saying because LAN no longer works... it's DRM, or because GOG/Steam 'fixed' multiplayer but not like the original game: crossplay through galaxy not a master server like the gamespy days... makes it DRM?

For all purposes, this game was abandoned my lucasarts, pandemic, gamespy, etc... just so EA could make a buck on the new BF.
There is always gameranger, tunngle, etc.... and of course swbfspy, which is much better .... but nobody plays..... they'd rather complain.

Just my two cents.... bankrupt now.

Have you guys gone to the download page and clicked more? It gives an option to download the “old” version without GOG Galaxy...

Same crappy no LAN installer with Galaxy not included.

If it was the original untouched installer it would say setup_sw_battlefront2_2.0.0.5.

If I understand correctly they've stripped out MP functionality entirely unless you use Galaxy and services such as Gameranger no longer work. GOG did that to Alien vs. Predator 2000 so it wouldn't surprise me if they did that here.

Gameranger has hundreds of games running without breaking functionality and GOG can't manage that? There's no reason to remove LAN unless you want to funnel players into something else, Galaxy in this case.
What if that was part of the deal with Disney to get GOG to send the new update through? I can see them telling GOG to get rid of the old installer so they could try and control which versions the users have. I dunno, I never used the IP connect option myself, but I can understand it getting under people's skin. Still, I wouldn't be so quick to jump at GOG's throat, we wanted the update and maybe they had to sacrifice it for that to get the green light. *shrug*
I guess everyone's problem is that they can no longer play the game on local networks which I can understand since 90% of my multiplayer is the monthly LAN party we arrange. Simply you can't run a stand alone server with the new version (maybe because the server files wasn't updated or not even included, as I said I didn't downloaded the newest one) but have to create a room inside the lobby but that requires net connection even if the PCs are physically connected.
If any GOG mods are reading this then please respond, and while you are at it restore the original untouched installer to our accounts that you removed thank you.
It's annoying that they removed LAN but the version your talking about has a lot of its own bugs and problems with connectivity. I still have that version but I don't use it because certain modes don't appear or run on singleplayer like they are supposed to.

I don't recall any issues with the original gamespy/LAN installer, I played it with friends via LAN and had no issues.

It still must be added back to our accounts as that is what I paid for, not this garbage thats on my account right now.

LAN didn't have any bugs, you just had to all be on the same network for it to work.
I read Gog still provide access to old version of their games, but you need to go through support for that (or maybe try Galaxy's rollback function, that might work as well).

And anyway, the Gog staff usually doesn't read the forum. Even if they wanted to, they couldn't possibly monitor +1300 subforums. If you have a complaint take it to them.
