Pawel1995: Yep I had the same problem yesterday. Tried it again today very early in the morning and the multiplayer works now for me! So it really seems like an overload when refreshing the server list.

Wyzzlex: I'm now able to see the server list but joining a server does not seem to work. The "Connection to Host Lost" thread adresses my current problem.
Hmm, you are right. SOME servers give me this error, too. I looked the error up on the internet and many people had this issue with BF2, but I couldn't find what it really causes or how to fix it.
Do you guys know if I am able to play with the CD or do I need to buy it on GoG to use the Multiplayer function?

There was a big 3 GB update pushed out on GOG and Steam yesterday to enable the multiplayer, so I doubt you'd be able to play directly from a CD install. Contact GOG support and see if they'll send you a copy of the patch.

Hey guys,

The update went live yesterday on the server-side and the freezing issue is now solved.

However the multiplayer in general, although very much playable, is not yet where we would like it to be.
We are now working on an update that would address that. It is still too early to give an ETA, unfortunately, but we are doing everything we can to have it ready and tested as soon as possible.

Myself and a few others from the community who have stuck around throughout the Spy servers being shutdown are paying for dedicated Battlefront II servers which we would like to move to your master server. Can you give us any information regarding support for dedicated server software, either new or recompilling the old software to work with the new MS?

Dedicated servers would go a long, long way in providing good quality online play, as the ping for most players on self-host servers will make it unplayable, this has always been the case for BF2, its a 2005 game and the client side does very little when it comes to playing on a server, most all of it is server side which requires a grade of internet connection very few people at home will have and that is offered best by private rental companies - which me and my fellow community hosts use.

Myself and a couple of others are trying to get the old Server Manager 1.1 software working with your new master server but we'll have no luck if you guys have changed the protocols used to connect to it because none of us have the source code for that software.

Thanks.

Could you confirm that the "lost to host" error and the endless connecting to a server, is a thing that will get fixed with this patch?

I was looking to solve this issue now for a few hours, but I think it's not on my end, since this error also occurred years ago with the Multiplayer servers from Gamespy (at least the internet is full with that) and I couldn't find a solution on the internet.

Basically I can't join 80% of populated servers, but the other 20% I can join without problems.

In all likely hood it's because the servers that you are trying to join that you can't connect to are located on a machine too far for you to connect to. Remember there are no dedicated servers yet. For instance, if you're from Poland your chances of connecting to a BF2 server being hosted on someone's PC using their homes internet connection (all the servers will be like this atm) anywhere in the US are very slim. The servers you connect to are probably the ones located near enough to you that the hosts internet connection is sufficient to connect you. This would also make sense of the 80-20 thing, as I expect most servers at the moment are being hosted in the US which I doubt you'd be able to connect to, you'd have to stick to EU self-host servers until we get dedicated server support.
Atm it looks like the traffic gets routed via US matchmaking servers or so. since everyone has a 150+ ping for me (I'm in europe/germany) so any chance we get some European matchmaking servers aswell for the european players?

Or is this a side effect of the "the Multiplayer is currently not where we want it to be" problem?
How is it that my friends on Steam are able to play without issue? I just keep receiving Unknown Error
For those who are having issues joining in regard to connection timeouts (Busy timer get's to 60), try jopining servers with less than 10 people. It should connect within about 10-20 seconds.

This worked for me on the Steam version.

Hello, someone on the Steam community contacted GOG customer support and was told that there's no plan on fixing the servers. Is that confirmed or are there still plans on releasing a patch at some point?
