I am making the blanket declaration that not a single person has ever figured out the door code or the computer code by converting base 10 to base 3 and base 4. We have all either called the helpline 800-number or downloaded WALKTHRU.TXT from AOL keyword GAMES. Anybody who says they figured it out on their own is a liar!

So I'm not gonna lie (or am I?) and declare I did in fact figure it out.

This must be the most obscure riddle in any adventure ever (another bold claim)… not only does it require some non-trivial mathematical knowledge, but it is also never hinted anywhere except in some in-game encyclopedia entry WHICH YOU CANNOT ACCESS WHEN YOU NEED THE INFORMATION!

Why did I read it before doing the mission? I guess I am a clerk at heart and really like briefings…
Surely, Kirk wouldn't have read it!

The first time I played I just plain got stuck and never progressed past that point. I was fairly young at the time.

Replaying it recently, I did figure out that I needed to convert the number to a different base, but I admit I had to google the exact procedure to do that. I only figured it out because I was religiously checking the library computer for every bit of information before beaming down for each mission. It was actually somewhat of a relief to learn that the puzzle that had stumped me as a kid was actually really hard. I don't think I even knew any number theory at the time so there was no chance I would have figured it out back then.
Since I only beat it a few years ago, I'm pretty sure I did not look up the answer online and figured it out because I know I beat the game without cheating. I must have got stuck and also checked the on board computer I forget exactly. I'm sure if I played this in my younger days, I would have taken much longer to figure it out or just given up on the game. Two of my friends at the time got stuck on the last battle with the Vengeance but eventually I figured it out too.
