it was nice of them and I assume they want to work on their own mods in their own time but I don't see any issue for gog.com

People often mistake of conflating open source with non-commercial. Just because the product you're selling is open source (and almost all parts of it can be downloaded for free) doesn't mean you can't keep selling it for money.

If one wants to be pedantic, then often times what you end up selling is your support for said product, and in GOG's case that's also appropriate.
