I'm asking myself if this game has the same problems as the Steam release. It's not about the common lighting problem about lights not showing.

My guess is that this has to do about some incompatibility with the shader rendering, as in other game by lowering the shader detail I got them working properly (same problem there). But this time I can't get it working. My video card is an Nvidia 470 GTX

It's the light sources that are much too shiny, they are a white bright patch that doesn't let me see the details of light bulbs for example.

The screenshot will speak for me.

If anyone knows how to resolve it, or if this version doesn't have the problem thanks in advance.

Not sure what other game you're talking about, but SC is meant to looks like this. The xbox version looks pretty much the same, and that's the default look of the game.

Wow, I must have messed up with screenshots from another splinter cell, thanks for the quick reply.

I kind of freaked out when I couldn't see the detail from the vent because of the brightness, in other games because of the shader this happened and it was a compatibility problem.

Thanks again
Splinter Cell 1 have 3 different Rendering pipes to render Lighting and Shadows, but all of them have pros and cons.
You cant have best lighting and best shadows, i tried but without success.
Most of the time the best Option is with ForceShadowMode=1.

ForceShadowMode 1 or when ForceShadowMode is commented out with a ; in front only work correctly on a Geforce 3, 4 or FX.

For all other, later cards, you should go with ForeShadowMode=0 which will use projection instead of buffer shadow.

I found that the game will be very playable with this setting. The search lights in Abattoir are visible.

On an old Geforce you will get more shadows at more areas and also prettier light effects. It is the only way to play this game in it's full glory, with an old Geforce card :)

My recommended system would be:

Pentium 4 S478
2 GHz CPU
2 GB RAM
XP SP2
Audigy 2 ZS
Geforce4 Ti
