How did GOG get the remakes for Police Quest, Quest For Glory, Leisure Suit Larry, and even Gabriel Knight, but they couldn't get the remake of "Space Quest?" As someone who played the remake and not the original as a kid, it is unthinkable to play a version of "Space Quest 1" that does not have a cameo from the 2 Guys From Andromeda for some of the deaths.

GOG support might have some info to share, so you can try contacting them and notifying us here if you like.

It's annoying. I also don't see the ega driver for Space Quest IV. If GOG is going to release old school games, please give all the options.

I don't have any of my disc versions with me to check, but is it possible GOG used the same source for their release as the 2006 collections that Vivendi put out? If I recall correctly, the fan community identified some of them as being pirated versions (and therefor, some of the files being missing or altered from the originals).

Of course, I think that specific collection actually omitted the original version of SQ1, rather than the remake. So it's a wild guess at best.

It would appear that Steam is the sole rights-holder for the distribution of SQ1 VGA. Apparently there's some sort of exclusivity there for Steam that GOG was not allowed. However, I have seen some comments to the effect that the original EGA version is preferred to the VGA remake by some people (who would settle for nothing less than the original.) If you bought the GOG version you can wait for a Steam sale in order to purchase the VGA version, or you can go the Torrent route and get it that way *cough*. (My own opinion of the torrent route is if you paid retail for a game when it was new but lost your copy, etc., dog ate it, etc., you're doing nothing wrong by procuring another copy--as you've already paid a premium to the IP holder for your original copy.) That said, it really doesn't make any sense not to go ahead and get a copy on Steam/Gog for backup if nothing else, does it? (Especially on sale!)

Are there any other places to get the remake besides Steam? For some reason, it isn't sold in my region.

Unfortunately, Steam is the only place where you can legally get a digital version of the Space Quest I remake as of right now.

STILL no SQ1 remake here on GOG? Come on, folks! Get it together!

We get both versions of Police Quest 1, right? It's not like some of the EGA/VGA versions like SQIV or Larry 5 where the differences are cosmetic. SQ1 and SQ1VGA are totally different games and it's a shame that games who've not experienced both are missing out on GOG, which is where the series really belongs, IMO. :)

I'd love to get an update or definitive answer from GOG staff as to why it's not here... is it really a exclusive deal that Steam has? I can understand that with a whole game (especially newer ones), but how many people is SQ1VGA going to sway?

The SQ1 remake just wouldn't be worth it unless they can convince Roland to let them distribute the Roland MT-32 ROM files.

The MT-32 sound was by far the best sound in any of the SQ1 versions on any platform.
