It's pretty obvious that Activision has made demands about pricing, and that GOG won't be able to meet all of those demands until they've gotten around to adding more pricing options (which is something they've said they're planning to do - possibly as a result of the Activision deal). As has previously been said, the full Space Quest collection costs 20 bucks elsewhere. GOG has likely gotten around having to wait until they've implements the new pricing options by making the series available in two ten-dollar packs. They might be trying to negotiate a cheaper price for the first three games, though.
There's one game that Activision has recently re-released for twenty bucks that definitely won't be coming out on GOG until they've implemented the new pricing options, though: Planescape Torment.

I hope that somehow they can release both versions of Space Quest 1 if the first three are being released at a later date.

Umm, I think your're confusing Activision for ATARI. ATARI currently holds exclusive rights (under license from Hasbro/WotC) to distribute and develop AD&D/Dungeons&Dragons based games for PC and console.
I've noticed the the Quest series of games on Steam don't officially support Vista systems, Not having tried them on my system I can't verify that they'd all work correctly. That's one reason i've held off on buying any of them from Steam.
Here's hoping they get added, Maybe it's just me but Space Quest 3 will *always* be my personal favourite. I don't know why, maybe nostalgia. SQ5 is the best of the series, but I just get tingly everytime I startup SQ3 and listen to the theme song. :D

See, the Vivendi collections strip out older versions of games even to the point of only giving you the windows versions of a game. This causes a problem with 64-bit OSes since they can't run 16-bit programs. From what I remember, the fan installers take the files from the collection and replace the windows EXE with the DOS version and then wrap it in DOSBOX. The collection had many other issues as well, but this one is the one that keeps Steam from listing Vista/Win7.
if they were included I would buy it in the blink of an eye
Im getting it on steam as its only $5 more and has 1,2 and 3.
which is a shame as I like GOG

For an extra $9.99
I got all 6 from amazon for only £4 (1/2 of what steam charges and 1/3 of what GOG charges)
The price is probably the best the GOG team could negotiate. If they could get a lower price, they probably would.
The "DRM-FREEEEEEE!" monster must still scare a lot of publishers who aren't ready for the 21st century.

Even with a 22-year old game that never came with DRM to begin with and is all over the internet on abandonware sites anyway? If I were them, I'd be happy anybody is still willing to pay for these games. 9,99 USD is too expensive for only half the series, you can get the boxed copy of the complete collection cheaper (without DRM).

Well, yes, actually Activision messed up pretty hard with this release.
