I've been making my own little "upgrade" patches of various GOG games that have less-than-optimum settings, missing drivers or setups, etc. and among those are the classic Sierra adventures (with the hope of making them available as a way for less tech-savvy buyers here to make their games play even better).

As part of this project, I was planning to allow my updater for SQ1 to copy SQ1VGA to the user's GOG folder after asking them to point to where they already have the game files (e.g. an old collection installation, CD or Steam version, to ensure the user owned it legit), however because as an Australian, I apparently can't buy the Steam version to test it... so I need help!

If someone here owns the Steam version, could they be so kind as to post a list or screenshot of files (obviously, not the actual files, I'm not advocating piracy here) in the Steam SQ1VGA folder (presumably "steamapps/common/Space Quest Collection/SQ1VGA"?) here so I can see exactly what files are included in this official Steam release?

Don't understand, really--why not just buy it from Steam yourself? Should have all of your questions answered. Incidentally, my GOG copies of the games all run fine and install fine--no missing files, etc. (Windows 10x64.) The only game actually missing from the GOG collection is the VGA version of SQ1, IIRC. There are also various *legal* VGA remakes of some of the earlier games which have been placed in the public domain and formally released--should Google them to get started...

Sorry, please re-read my original post. Even though buying it on Steam would be buying it twice, I was actually willing to do that for the sake of checking my patches... but Steam *will not let me buy it*. I wasn't even aware that Steam "hid" some titles from different regions, but the Space Quest Collection is one of them.

To explain in more detail, If you're an Australian user, the Space Quest Collection on Steam:
A) doesn't show up when you search for it at Steam
B) cannot access the store page for if even if you find it via Google
C) cannot buy it because it's not available for this region.

I didn't even know Space Quest was *on* Steam until somebody mentioned it and I found the discussion page via Google!

All I want to know is what files the Steam version of SQ1VGA includes, please, if you happen to own it on Steam. As much as I love the SQ games, I'd rather not have to jump through VPNs and such and risk getting some kind of Steam ban for that just to be able to *buy* a game legitimately from them that they've for some reason decided to block for Australian users.

As for missing files on GOG, as I stated in my OP, the main reason *is* because SQ1VGA is missing and I want to make a patch to add to their GOG setups for users who own it from elsewhere.

Also, before the ScummVM updates very recently, the DOSBox versions of Space Quest were missing several install files and/or did not use the most optimum settings. For example, did you know how Space Quest 3's music *can* sound if set up better than the GOG DOSBox defaults? After the ScummVM update, I'd like to add back a way for those who prefer DOSBox to use that to play the games, like before.

Again, though, if anyone owns the Space Quest Collection on Steam, would you mind posting a list of the file structure it contains, or else messaging me privately to discuss it? I'd really appreciate it; I just want to make these amazing games even better for other people who might not know how.

(apologies for the late reply, for some reason GOG doesn't seem to alert me when I have a forum reply in the little "bell" anymore!)
Do you still need the list of files of SQ1VGA?

I do, please! Thank you! Size/datestamp on the files would be awesome, but just the file names alone is enough if it's a pain for more. Heck, a screenshot of the folder would do it, I think.

I really REALLY wish I could "just buy it myself" on Steam as another poster suggested, but as I've hopefully made clear Steam will NOT sell SQ (or KQ) to me in Australia for some crazy reason!!!
Not sure if you still need this or not, but here is a list of the files. I tried to attach a screenshot, but I kept getting a "Wrong file format!" error (not sure what format is allowed if JPG, PNG and GIF aren't), so I just typed the list out manually.

You'll notice that two of the files don't have extensions listed. This isn't an error; they really don't have extensions.

Also, I verified that the directory path you guessed in your original post is correct.

EDIT: just noticed you asked for date and file size also. The files are all timestamped by the date/time installed, but I added in the file sizes.

I copy the file list because you have the size of the files in bytes....

I just bought Space quest 1,2,3 and 4,5,6 threw seeing it was 4$ cant go wrong for that and I had blast playing these games as kid.

Kind disappoint SQ 1 is not the VGA remake cause there is huge diffrence between EGA and VGA verisons. I have not installed SQ 2 yet is the that VGA verison or EGA?

LOL! VGA version of SQ2? Really? Even IF Sierra had released a VGA version of SQ2, why didn't you take the 2.5 seconds to install it and just find out for yourself? You could have had it installed and ran it faster than it took to post that question

There was never an official VGA version of SQ2, the same way there was never an official update to KQ2, KQ3 or QFG2, however there *are* free fan-made adaption of all those games.

AGD Interactive (formerly Tierra) made VGA versions of KQ2, KQ3 and QFG2, while Infamous Adventures made their own version of KQ3 and SQ2 in VGA.

SQ2 VGA can be found at https://infamousadventures.itch.io/space-quest-ii-vga-remake.

Graphically, it's pretty close to Sierra's style for that era and looks really good. I'm not very keen on the voice acting, though, especially the narrator (IIRC, it's been awhile since I played it so can't be sure this was the fan game I'm thinking of).

PS Still can't buy the Space Quest games on Steam if you're in Australia like me. Really annoys me, even though I own them a dozen times over... just want to own them on every platform but can't unless I can maybe get someone to buy them for me, I guess.
