I've put together a Wine wrapper for Soldier of Fortune and Soldier of Fortune 2, allowing them to be played on Linux almost like a native game & with no Wine knowledge required.

Simply run the build script to create the wrapper. If the installer files are not alongside the wrapper build files then the path to them will need to be specified either by passing it as an argument to the build script with -respath="<path>" or by setting an environment variable named WINEWRAP_RESPATH containing it. You can change the path to build the wrapper in and the name of the wrapper directory with the -buildpath= and -dirname= arguments. The build path can also be set with the WINEWRAP_BUILDPATH environment variable.

The output will be a directory containing the game set up within a preconfigured Wine prefix, along with its own copy of Wine, extracted game icons, documentation, and start script(s). From there simply run the start script to play. The start script also includes options for creating a shortcut, configuring the wrapper etc.

(to uninstall simply delete the game directory and any shortcuts you created, and the game's user data directory in ~/.local/share if you don't want to keep your saves & settings)

User data is stored under ~/.local/share/soldier_of_fortune and ~/.local/share/soldier_of_fortune_2

Full details are in the readme.txt and release notes. Here are the download links:

The wrappers use Proton 5.0-9 (Soldier of Fortune) and Wine 6.0 (Soldier of Fortune 2). Wine and Winetricks will be downloaded automatically if not present; to avoid redownloading for other scripts the downloaded Wine package will be stored in ~/.cache/winewrap

In addition the Soldier of Fortune wrapper includes the SoFplus mod for improved widescreen support as well as various other enhancements and important fixes. To find out more, see sofplus-client-readme.txt in the wrapper's docs directory and/or check out its website at http://sof1.megalag.org/sofplus/

Similarly, the Soldier of Fortune 2 wrapper includes Sui's Fix mod. However please note that video playback will not work correctly at widescreen resolutions.

Thanks to Clarry for figuring out the cause of (and fix for) a crash that was preventing Soldier of Fortune from running on certain systems, and thanks to cartoon49 for donating the key for Soldier of Fortune 2 :)

If anyone encounters any problems then post in this thread, Adamhm's Linux Wine Wrappers - News, FAQ &amp; Discussion and/or The "Judas&trade; does this run in Wine" thread v1.173.

clarry: It has the gl extension string bug but apart from that, it seems to work just fine.

Also I recall seeing it totally mess up gamma on first launch so that you can't really see anything in the main menu.. didn't happen this time though. I can't remember how I worked around that last time. Maybe I just tweaked gamma in the config files, or maybe I just saw enough to navigate to the options and fix it.
When will the wine version of SOF 2 will be finished because I really want to play the second game on Linux using a wrapper.

I don't have SOF 2 yet so I don't know

Will you get it when it on sale?

I'm waiting for the price to drop enough to justify it (I limit how much I'm willing to pay for games that don't support Linux)

It on sale right now.
But the discount isn't any better than the last times it was on sale

How about I buy a copy of it for you?
You can if you want & I'll prioritise making a wrapper for it, but there's no guarantee that I can get it working (although from what I've read it sounds like it should be possible to get it to run well with a few tweaks depending on system setup)
