I see there is an update called 1.2b. The file I downloaded is v_1.1.0.12. Is this 1.2b? When I go to 'About' (on my Mac), I only get information about Wineskin, not the game. So far I have not been able to find the version number for the game to verify that I have the update.

Still running into the frozen 'bug.' Been looking at the forums and trying to figure out if this is the windowing problem that other folks have run into. So far I have not quite figured out how to resolve it if it is a windowing problem (not familiar with wineskin), but I am still reading. Specific directions on a fix or the link to it, if anyone has the patience, would be appreciated.

Yes, that is version 1.2b of Smugglers V.

What is the frozen bug, if you don't mind me asking?

I will take an action, or worse win a battle, and the game will freeze. None of the windows/buttons are responsive and I end up quitting the game and reloading rather frequently. I have not been able to determine a pattern but I saw a reference to several posts on windowing issues (i.e., see pallee's post on March 18th - http://www.gog.com/forum/smugglers_v/game_unresponsive_after_combat).

I am trying to figure out how he got to his windowing solution to see if this fixes my problems. I also seem to recall coming across a few other posts talking about windows issues and wineskin but have not run across them again yet, still schlogging through the posts.

On an unrelated, or maybe not, note: There is a mysterious 'Button 1' on the top right corner of the galaxy map. Nothing seems to happen when I click it.

Hi ehyder,

The problem you describe seems very accurate to what I was experiencing before 1.12b. (See the credits lower left corner for the correct version number)

To me it seems like v1.2b is much more stable than previous versions (running on osx 10.6.8). Most of my reported window issues are gone with this update, and modifying the wineskin wrapper actually irreversibly reintroduces some lag that was (thankfully) removed in 1.2b - I have not found a way to reverse the side effects of the mod it without a fresh installation of the game. Hence, I would advice against any modifications, and deny any and all responsibility for people messing up. (Although, if you are still keen on trying, I can try to walk you though via PM)

The "Button 1" was introduced in the 1.2 update, however, I don't think it has any effect.

Thank you for the reply. (I am running on 10.8.5.) DId not really want to mess with wineskin so I guess I will just live with the freezes, or whatever they are. If I figure out any pattern I will post again.

It was also fixed in 1.2b build at least on Windows. It should be fixed for OS X as well.
Always freezes on Kim III after exploring the planet and defeating the pirates who are attacking the planet. Going to give up exploring that planet for now.

Update - And the same thing happens on Hermes in Baiton with the same scenario. Pirates attack planet, I attack and defeat pirate - then freeze. This time I reloaded and stayed out of the fight and the game did not freeze. For the sake of completeness I reran the sequence, but this time lost the battle. Froze again. It looks like I should not engage in any pirate battles when exploring a planet.

Try re-downloading the Mac installer for Smugglers V and see if it helps. Apparently, we somehow didn't applay the latest Windows version update of Smugglers V to the Mac installer. The filename of the new installer is smugglers_v_1.1.0.13.dmg. This one gets rid of that "Button 1" in the galaxy map.

Thanks :)

I was going to test my previous save game with the new install, but apparently a new install wipes out old save files. Um, a warning prior to install would have been good. Yes, yes, I should know better than to not back up files, but still. Will take a bit to get to a pirate planet attack from a fresh start.

On installation I am getting the following error message: 'Wine could not find a Gecko package....' Have not dug into the Wineskin website yet to see what that is all about.

And yes, button is gone, yay!
Despite what my picture shows from character generation, I seem to be a nonhuman in this incarnation (some kind of tiger?). Which appears to mean I have many fewer encounters on human (ape) planets, reducing my ability to test planet-side pirate battles in this update. Will edit post if I can ever find one.

Just ran into another pirate encounter while exploring a planet; in this case Mars as a Federal Fleet officer. The game froze again and I have to quit the game. I do not see any way to proceed playing the game if this keeps happening. Suggestions?

You can wait until we put out another update as we just got version 1.2c an hour before I left the office today :) We'll try to have the new version out ASAP :)

(An hour before I left the office was about 7 hours or so ago :) )

No problem. I will hold off playing until I see an update. Thank you.
