Writing here for now, I noticed Stardock people lurking around here. I may try later with their issue tracker (it's burried in one of the threads, it might be good idea to put it into separate post and get GoG to sticky it).

----

I have finished "short" game (11 hours, one opponent on easiest difficulty, just to reacquaint myself with it... last I played it was with Entrenchment). I already noticed during the game that achievements are not being marked as completed in Galaxy, but hoped winning the map would correct it. It didn't, and after poking around I found that even the in-game achievements reset to 0% after restart. I can load my game just before winning and get them back in-game, but they only stay until I quit.

Win7-64, installed through Galaxy outside of Program files. Clean install, this computer never had anything Sins-related on it. No mods either. I tried repair function in Galaxy, it reinstalled VC redistributables and said no changes were done - and it didn't fix the issue. I have yet to try running it as an administrator (this must wait until I get back home, it was too late yesterday).

Edit: running as admin doesn't help.

I am seeing the same thing running it using wine. Maybe for steam the values were saved per player on the netwprk? It would be nice to have it work per computer. I'm not likely to try all of the crazy things there are achievements for, but it would be nice if it did track things for the more normal cases.

At this time it appears it may be due to the client itself, Galaxy, and tracking these achievements. We are working with GoG to get these tracked properly in Galaxy. Thank you for your patience.

Thank you. Normally I don't worry about achievements too much, but with Sins it's a bit different. There is no story to speak of, and I'm not too much into multiplayer, so there is not much point to the game other than to take these as a challenge and spend some evenings crushing AI opponents into oblivion.

Hope you can track it down.

Isn't this supposed to work for people that don't run galaxy? You won't get results combined when playing on different computers or different accounts on the same computer, but I would expect that to be good enough for many players.

You'll need to run Galaxy to get achievements. The clients, Steam or Galaxy, are what track the achievements.

I agree, I would be happy if only in game per-PC achievements worked right. But software development is like that, even tiny change can sometimes mess something even completely unrelated - and in this case IS related.

Btw are you running Galaxy under wine or not? Your post didn't mention it, only the game. Just curious, and it may help narrow the possible cause.

Hmm, that's not ideal, I'm pretty sure that before Steam was a requirement the in-game achievements were saved locally, it must have been ripped out sometimes after. Won't affect me as much (when it works as it is supposed to), but people around here are sensitive to such issues.

I buy games from Gog so as not to have to run stuff like galaxy. It seems odd not to have a local copy of the achievements when not able to report them to a separate service. However it is more important that the game run ender wine (which it seems to nicely) than for me to track achievements.
I thought about it some more - there is no reason why Galaxy.dll can't track the achievements offline when the client itself is not installed or not connected. The game can use standard API to record and query achievements, and leave the rest to gog library.

I mean - no reason other than gog people have not implemented it yet. Or maybe they have? I didn't test, and with broken Sins I don't even know how. No other game comes to mind that doesn't keep it's own records and relies only on client integration. MAYBE falllen enchantress, since is it from the same people...

The game did use to save achievements to a local file before Rebellion, but with Rebellion they switched to steam works so I'm sure all the achievement code got reworked. Since new achievements were added with Rebellion it may not be so easy to get them all working to a local file.

Besides, in the old days you could just hack the file to get the achievements. :p And more than once I've accidentally cleared my achievements while messing around with my PC. Not an issue anymore with clients, and its nice that I don't have to do them again on my new PC.
Achievements still aren't working. :(
Patch 1.84 is here, and achievements are still broken. As a bonus, I can't load games saved with 1.83 - either it's stuck in loading screen (no progress bar appears, let alone fills), or a straight CTD.

But as for the achievements issue... I'm beginning to suspect that it's my Galaxy installation that is broken. I haven't ever reinstalled it since first installation, which could be about 2 years ago. Only autoupdates since then. And lately there have been several games that claim galaxy compatibility, yet achievements are never recorded (Solus project is the last example I noticed, but not the only one).

I'll have to try purging it and doing clean install, once time permits. Or maybe downgrade from "beta with experimental features" to "just beta" first and see if it helps.
They also still don't work if you aren't using galaxy. I doubt they'll fix that though.
Finally fixed in 1.85. Since Solus project achievements now work too, Galaxy is off the hook... for now.
It is a shame that progress is not saved locally. As it was mentioned before original, CD version of game had offline achievements, so it is hard to understand why the gog one cannot have both, Galaxy and offline achievements.
