For your custom resolution use sinpatcher, its easy to use!

And in game choose Default Opengl as renderer. Dont forget the advanced options... at the buttom for eyecandy!

The game looks still pretty to me :)

If Opengl crashes and you have a NVIDIA card, download NVIDIA Inspector, make/change profile for SiN, add the game's .exe file and enable the "Extension limit" option, it should fix the problem, (worked for me this way).

You can't set the video resolution from the game menu. Leave 3dfx selected as it is by default and use nglide_config.exe (which is in the same folder with sin.exe) to set the resolution and other video options .

NOTE: No matter what the real video resolution is, the game menu will show 640x480.

Retail or Steam version for the patch? Nglide is garbage and rarely if ever works for me.

Thanks! nGlide was making my video card crazy glitch. Good to have an alternative.

You need to switch the renderer to OpenGL (3DFX). nGlide isn't used in OpenGL (default) mode.

Will the Sinpatcher allow the game to run in a window on Windows 7?
I've created a profile with NVIDIA Inspector, and turned "Extension limit" on, but the game still doesn't appear, though I can hear menu sounds.

Also, if I run the exe directly from the folder, it will play intro movies, but not when I run from the desktop.

Running the exe directly means there are no shortcut variables passed to it, so it will play the intro videos. If you run it from the GOG shortcut there are shortcut parameters to run an autoexec file I think. These prevent the intro videos from playing. This is actually a good thing, though, due to the screen resolution changing and flickering.

As for the black screen, are you running it in 3DFX mode still? If so, use the nglide configurator to change the gamma setting. The GOG version of SiN uses an old version of nglide that has fewer gamma settings, and as it reads from the same registry locations as the newer nglide versions which have more gamma settings it causes this black screen problem.
I replaced the nglide executable in the game folder with the latest (v1.03), which didn't fix the black screen, but maxing out the gamma setting did.
Nothing here works. Oh well, guess I'll have to play in 640x480 with my 23" monitor then.

The nglide executable only alters the registry values. It is the 3dfx dll files that actually need to be replaced with those from the latest version.

I found three such .dll files in the place where nGlide was installed. 3DfxSpl, 3DfxSpl2, and 3DfxSpl3. There were also three glide.dll files. I didn't see any "3dfxgl" or "3dfxglcd" files, though.

Yep, those are the 6 dll files that nglide uses. The 3dfxSpl DLLs I believe are for the 3dfx splash screen. You don't need them and if they aren't present the 3dfx logo will never display. The functional part of nglide is the glide dll files.

Anyway, delete those 6 DLLs and the nglide configurator and replace them with those from the latest version. Once done, just to be safe, reset the settings in the new configurator so that the gamma value is returned to default.

Don't know what you mean about "3dfxgl" and "3dfxglcd" though.
This will make the game work more pleasent, yes?
