Kirben: The following two items should have been added to the Start Menu:
Simon the Sorcerer
Simon the Sorcerer (Floppy)

Choose the second item, if you want to play Simon the Sorcerer 1 with subtitles.
Thanks a lot! I got it finally!
It's not a very straight-forward mechanism!
I cannot find this option inthe mac version, it plays with speech rather than the subtitled version.

can anyone help? :-)

cheers :-)

I second the question, can't see the way to turn the subtitles on in the mac version. Going into package and changing "subtitles" to "true" in scummvm settings didn't help;(
I just bought this game (mac version) and I'm totally disappointed for not having subtitles... is there a fix? I can't play this game without subs... it's a waste of money without subs for me

Thank you.
If you want to play the subtitled version, the game files get installed to the "DOS" game subdirectory. Choose this path when adding your game in SCUMMVM.
I am considering buying the Mac version of this game. Has the subtitles issue been resolved?

Thanks,
John
please add subtitles to the Voiced version.. it would be awesome :D. im pretty sure GoG can figure it out :D...
EDIT
Just realised this was the second page of the thread... Sorry! No subtitles then on the talkie version.

Hi there.
Since the game runs under ScummVM, the hotkeys for showing the global menu are "CTRL+F5"
But there is no way of showing up the subtitles but to install a foreign version of the game.
GOG guys, could you please add the english subtitles as well?
Love and kisses

So no subs at all?!
To enable subtitles in SS2 Mac, edit

/Applications/Simon the Sorcerer 2.app/Contents/Resources/game/game/simon2.ini

[simon2] subtitles=true
I have the same problem: No subtitles in the CD version. However,, the floppy version has subtitles but no voices!! Does anyone know how to fix this? By the way, I use a PC, not a MAC.

I am quoting Kirben ScummVM dev from their forum
"Unfortunately most of the subtitles were removed in the English and German versions of Simon the Sorcerer 1 (with speech). The subtitles were removed from the data files and the scripts altered to no longer display the subtitles in those cases. That is why subtitles are disabled under ScummVM."

So obviously it is the way the game is supposed to work, nothing GOG or ScummVM altered.

Coala: Hi
I've got a good news. We've added a version with subtitles:)
all you have to do is download the game once again and before you install you can choose which version you prefer :)
Hi @Coala please advise how to do this on Mac OS - it is not clear at all how to play with subtitles (the floppy disk version). No clear buttons or any other way to load this without voice. I tried using the T key in the game and that also does not work.

Update - I dug into the Mac package and I see a config file, in there the FDD version is pointing to a location on disk that is not present. If I run the default voice version, then hit Ctrl+(Fn)+F5 I can see the FDD option in the launcher menu, but when I click it I get a path error. Is this as simple as the files are not actually included in the GOG installer?

You can try to launch it manually via SCUMMVM: open install directory and find scummvm folder -> launch scummvm -> add game -> go up and select "fdd" -> confirm and start the game..
