Hi Geofferic
We've now added the subtitled version to the installer, so if you download it again, you'll have the option to choose the subtitled version or the full audio version to install. In hindsight, we made the wrong decision to only provide the full audio version, we're sorry for this. We'll try to expand our product descriptions to include this type of information in the future.
I hope that now you'll be able to enjoy the game =)
AVATAR:/_t2 #Q&_^Q&Q#USERNAME:Geofferic#Q&_^Q&Q#GROUP:4AWFUL! This game NEEDS subtitles for three reasons:
1) The original disk version HAD SUBTITLES.
2) There is no volume control for the music. No matter how loud I turn up the volume on the speakers, I cannot understand the speech over the music.
3) The deaf and hard of hearing (like myself!) who enjoyed this and many other games would really appreciate it if the description of an adventure game - dialogue driven, mind you - to include whether or not it actually comes complete - as in whether or not it actually comes with the subtitles it originally had.
BOO TO THE GAME DESCRIPTION NOT MENTIONING THIS VERY IMPORTANT MISSING FEATURE!! BOO TO MY LOSS OF 6 BUCKS RIGHT DOWN THE DRAIN!! BOO TO NOT RESPECTING YOUR DISABLED CUSTOMERS!!

That's an awful lot of boos.
Tip: use ScummVM to have more control over things like sound/music volume, subtitles and cross-platformability. :)

The '+' and '-' keys, can be used to turn the music volume up or down.
I bet Geofferic is feeling a bit foolish right now for getting so worked up.
Is there a way to have both subtitles and voice?

TheCheese33: Is there a way to have both subtitles and voice?

T key to disable/enable subtitles, V key to enable/disable speech
F10 gives you a 'hot-spot' hint - might be useful sometimes ;-)
M key to on/off in-game music, +/- to control its volume (already mentioned by Kirben)

Where could I choose between subtitled or full talkie? I recently bought this game and installed it but I never saw an option about choosing subtitled version. All I could do was change install directory

The T button doesn't work for me, nor the V button

Only in Simon the Sorcerer 2, using 't' to toggle subtitles on or off. Unfortunately full subtitles were not included in the data files of the English CD version of Simon the Sorcerer 1, so combined speech and subtitles isn't possible.

Sounds like you need to download the game again, the installer for Simon the Sorcerer 1 was updated, to include the disk and CD versions.

So to make sure I'm understanding things, there's no way to have full voice with subtitles? It's either or?

For Simon 1, yes.
Unless there's some trick I'm not aware of.

T toggle subtitles and V toggle voice. You can have both of them.
Hi,
I am one of the developers of ScummVM, a program which allows playing the Simon games (and many other adventure games) on many modern computers and consoles -- I think GOG even ships it with Simon.
Anyway: No, you can not have both subtitles and speech simultaneously, at least not in the english version of Simon 1 (and I guess all other Simon 1 releases, but I am not sure of that). This is a limitation of the game data files. For details, you may wish to refer to this thread in our forums. In certain versions of ScummVM we (erroneously) allowed you to enable both at the same time, but this can lead to very annoying and nasty bugs during gameplay, and may make it impossible to complete the game properly.
