Mod Author: xpressive_dan (OldMan-sprint)
Mod Name: Silverfall - Unofficial Bigger Text Font
Mod version: 0.97
Mod Status: Released to public

At a request from a friend I made this mod for this little gem of a game. This mod is compatible with "Silverfall: Gold Edition" or the new "Silverfall - Complete" from GOG but should work with steam version too.
This mod is based on "Silverfall - Complete" from GOG at a request from a friend.
This mod don't add/edit any fonts or images and this mod is using the biggest font available from vanilla with the expansion game.
This mod is for how the game should have been.

ATTENTION: You should make sure you have the base game with the expansion before using this mod.

The major problem with this "Silverfall" with the expansion "Earth Awakening" aka "Silverfall: Gold Edition" or the new "Silverfall - Complete" from GOG is that you'll struggle hard to read any text in the game, because the text is really small even on lower resolution.
This game isn't without any problems and it have his fair share of issues and some bugs.
Some of those are:
- Graphical issue on 3D preview crafting system ;
- Issue with some icons (text content is not show when you mouseover them) ;
- Small text even on lower resolution ;
- Some missing text ;
- Some other things I forgot to type down when tested this game .

With this mod you'll have an improvement readable text in the game, making a bigger fitting text for the game.
This is a real unofficial improvement text which don't have your typical copy the biggest text font 4 times then rename those 4 fonts with the name for other smaller fonts.
This mod fit the improvement text to be able reading properly without any cutoff text and also is edited to fit on various tabs menus, icons etc. Along with bigger text resolution, fit the text in various menus/icons etc. you'll also see a crisp text in the game.
Even more this mod works well with all resolution screen and don't even matter with what resolution you'll play, lower or higher the text will be seen the same sharp and on same size as other resolutions.

This game have a stroke effect which you can use and manipulate the text to improve the quality of the text. It's too bad they didn't fully use this system...
It could have been even more fun with this game if they didn't left many stuff left unfinished and/or broken.

Now with this mod you can enjoy playing more this little gem of game.

P.S. If you find any missing, errors, issues or incomplete text, icons then please contact me using the forum where this mod was posted. Thank you, take care and have fun.

Thanks for this. Helps a lot.

EDIT:
Also noticed that the flavor text in conversations (in blue) does not have larger font. Might be a thing for the next update? :)

Hi there, thank you for the report. I might missed that part but I don't know what exactly you mean. You mean there's some dialog lines with choosing options in blue text or something like that ?
Can you provide a screenshot and/or save game ?

I will when I next encounter it.

For example the Zombie boss in the cave in the marshes. Once he finished talking there was something like "He falls down, his body lifeless". I encountered it like 2 or 3 times before that point so it is really not frequent. The text is blue in these cases since it is not something someone is saying, but describes the situation.

EDIT:
Speak of the devil... Launched the game after this post and the first conversation has it. Attached screenshots.

EDIT 2:
Also added a screenshot (example3) of a non-blue flavor text not having a larger font. Also seen that once or twice before. The actual conversations are fine. It is just this additional info text that is still small.

I see now, thank you.
I played a bit the game and I did encounter that small blue text you're referring.
I took a look at the files to see if I can find a way to increase that little blue text, but until now I didn't saw anything related to our issue (I'll check for more for sure).
And I don't know if you saw there's also another one with the random pop-up text messages from NPC's, like when you're in the refuge camp, some random NPC talk about the falling Silverfall and some other stuff.
Those two are the remaining issues I probably can't fix them with the files. I'm not sure if some of the files related to those issues are pack in the ."pak" files like in the "interface.pak" or perhaps "design.pak" (but I guest the last one is for textures stuff". And I didn't find any tools compatible to unpack/decrypt those ".pak" files, the game is pretty old now and to be honest I didn't fully inspected the game to see what we can do and what not without unpacking/decrypt the ".pak" files.

The only possible method is to replace the lower font with the largest font available. And doing so it'll fix the problem on both issues. I'll probably will only fix the blue text since is using the fond I don't use anymore and I replaced almost if not everything I saw using it.
And as for the random pop-up messages from NPC is using a font I still use in some areas, it's a long story and not something you can fix like the other one, because the text will be cutoff.

P.S. I'll check if what I said above is as I said related with that small blue text (or other color) in the conversation.

EDIT:
Well I took a quick test and I was right about the small blue text. It's using a small font that I almost replaced everywhere with the biggest one in the files.
But I'll probably try to search some more in the files if I'll find the code line for this particularly thing. But it's strange why I didn't find the code line in the files like the other issue above, so I'm guessing those leftovers (or others if there are any other left) in the ".pak" files.
All in all the mod is pretty much complete.

Thanks for all the effort. Also noticed that the messages like "Your inventory is full" or quest log updates are also with the smaller font, but I assume that's the same problem as with the NPC messages (same format).

Even then, the mod is still extremely helpful. So thanks again.

Thank you!

Good news, I manage to fix the problem with the blue and other small text in the dialog, possible some other various text, like dmg done to your player etc.
I still didn't manage to resolve the problem with the pop-up messages from NPC.'s., but at least it have the text effect I use on other texts to improve the readability text (I don't remember if in the none-edited version have that effect , I might added without knowing about, I guess a test need to be done)..You might by right about with the the text "inventory full" or I might fixed with the other problem who knows, need more testing to see.
It's hard to find some of those code tag lines in the files, since the developers left quit a mess in the files with many leftovers and some incomplete codes.

If you find anything else, please let me know!

So far here's the changelog for the next version:

v0.98 (NOT YET RELEASED)
- Further improvements with more aesthetic text display
- Fixed some of the text size in dialogs
- Increased the remain small text in the dialogs
- Increased text number in the skill menu
- Rearrange some of the arrows in the skill menu for more aesthetic view

These are custom tags , a text with *asterisks* around it set in translation files.

To configure the formatting of custom tags (color or font) you first need to create customtags.cfg file at \Silverfall\Data\Design\Dialog\

Just create a new text file and paste the following code containing the default custom tags formatting,
then save the file as customtags.cfg to \Silverfall\Data\Design\Dialog\

Content of customtags.cfg with default custom tags formatting:

"*" "<color 101 176 234><font Times14>" "</font></color>"
"//" "<color 255 0 255>" "</color>"

You can change the color and font to your liking. Do not touch the "*" or "//" or else the text parsing will fail.

Encountered one more type of small text. Sometimes the response you have to choose is not the character saying something, but the conversation proceeds/ends with a text describing the situation (see screenshot for example). This text is not blue, but is still in the smaller font.
