Did you try to add Silver to the DEP exclusion list that Timeslip mentioned? That should do it...If you already tried it, contact the support. They are very helpful!

P.s Be sure to uninstall previous codec packs like DivX etc.

Yes I have already. could it be that my computer is just not compatible with the game itself ?? and what do u mean when u said: be sure to uninstall previous codec packs like divx etc ? i dont really understand this much in computing :/

Ok. What type of computer are you running this game on? OS? Hardware? It should work on most computers, but the best way to find out is to contact the GOG support. It's more possible that it's a software issue.

What I meant was, that if you have any other codec packs installed, it could interfere with your K-lite settings. I myself, made that mistake when I installed K-lite. I had to uninstall DivX to make it work.

I hope you will make it work!
I just converted the avi videos quickly to divx/mp3 using VLC media player and everything has been working well since that. It was actually much faster than trying to figure out why the current codecs in my computer were causing it to crash with access violation error.
SOLVED FOR ME AFTER CONVERTING VIDS & ADDING SILVER.EXE TO THE DEP EXCEPTION LIST

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
VId Card: ATI Radeon 6770
Sound: the usual REALTEK onboard 7.1 HD Audio chip.

- I converted the vids and they play correctly from in the game now.
- I also added Silver.exe to the DEP exception list.
GAME RUNS FINE
For now I can concur that converting the vids works as they're encoded details are a bit old which is what usually
causes them not to play in the first place so here's the converted vids for anyone that wants them.

FiN-Gaming.com/support/help/Silver_Vid_Converted.rar
Just OVERWRITE the old ones with these in the ..\Silver\data\intro folder

Thank you to TIMESLIP for the fix on this. Here's his post with instructions on the DEP issue:

BTW the "you cannot post any links at the moment" is ridiculous and annoying. I'm trying to help people and it's a pain. THIS IS WHY you have to cut-paste the incomplete links I put up as this site wouldn't allow me to post 2 links or any for some reason. This needs to be changed there's just no doubt about it :)

How exactly did you convert these video files? Im trying to convert a different language version file thats why im asking.
It's possible to dub the converted videos (but only "Intro.avi contains speech) for example with Virtual Dub or you can download these German converted Intro.avi:

Thank you very much. Exactly what I was looking for!
Moving the videos worked fine for me. Normally I'd be pissed but I just watched the intro and there seems to only be like 2 other super short cut scenes. Can't complain too much.

Darucas: Just to add to the codec fix:

I've found that selecting "prefer ffdshow over LAV" during the K-Lite installation is an issue for games like Thief. Given that Silver is the only one having issues for me with the default setting (LAV over ffdshow), keeping this default setting may be better.

So for Silver, as the cutscenes (.avi) use Indeo3, you can enable this format in the ffdshow video decoder (in Start=>K-Lite =>Configuration=>ffdshow video decoder=>Codecs) - select "libavcodec" for Indeo 3. So that without changing the default install setting, you can play both Thief (and others?) and Silver without crashing in any game. Maybe this will help those who don't want to reinstall the pack.
This was the solution for me.
Thanks.

timeslip: ok, for anyone with this particular problem, there's 4 avi files in the data\intro folder. If you move them out of the way, the game should be able to start up. There's a codec in the k-lite codec pack that causes that crash, but silver should be blocked from loading it, so maybe it's coming from somewhere else... What codec packs do people have installed?

You might be able to view the movies in windows media player or something (They aren't used in game, just on startup and at the game end, so watching the first two before playing and them leaving them out of the the folder wont effect gameplay.) or configure the problem codec pack to ignore silver, so you can safely put the avi files back.

Thanks to Skheart for testing that for me. :)
Thanks for the solution, mate! :)
