The game crashes every five minutes or so.
I've tried the different service packs, running as admin, turning off voice, I dunno what to do.
It seems like a good game but especially since there is no save anywhere feature, this is kind of a deal breaker for me.
I'm using windows eight with a 2.5 GHz quad core.

I'm getting the same problem. Well, I assume it's the same problem. It'll just freeze (and the current sound will repeat ad infinitum) I can't even seem to get past the introductory portion of the game.
Same problem here. My laptop has an Intel Core i5-3230M 2.60 GHz, 4 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 710M and Windows 8 64 bits.

In the best try I could reach the first fights with the soldiers, but not knowing how to save the game I'm unable to go so much further.

Same problem here. Additionally, already saved games seem to be deleted if the game wasn't restarted properly before the crash.
Ditto here...

Intel i7-3630QM, 240gHz, 8GB ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M running Win 8.1, 64bit. The game is loaded in a C:\Games\Silver folder and no where near the Program Files.

First time I loaded the game, I watched the intro video and it went to the menu just fine. I clicked Play and it just sat there with a black screen. No error message. I had to reboot out (nothing else worked) and reloaded.

This time, I escaped out of the Intro, clicked Play and got to the tutorial portion and it froze (no sound, no keys unfrozen). I again had to hard boot out.

I'm running this with ffdshow everywhere, but am going to try other options. I'll report back if I find anything useful.

hi guys!

same problem here (although I reached the first savepoint before the freezings started) but I have to admit that I did not try all the presented solutions by gog [1]

my system: lenovo n200 laptop, win 7 pro 32 bit, intel core 2 duo t5250, 2gb ram, single monitor

any suggestions would be great ... if the suggestions by gog bring any change I will let you know.

Regards, Matthias

ps: gog is absolutely great - thank you so much for all those games!

it looks like enabling compability mode for windows 98 solved the problem.
Still the game freezed after the first boss with level up but I am pretty sure that is a different problem.

It doesn't solve the problem: the game crashes at start. Yet it works on my laptop but not on my desktop computer. They both are on win7 x64.

Still no solution i see...
Hi All,

I think I might found a solution, at least for my system (AMD A10 with dual graphics, Windows 8 x64). I forced silver to use only the APU graphics card instead of the dedicated and disabled the display scaling, is now working for me. I played almost 1 hour without any crashes. All the other settings are the default (XP SP2 compatibility mode and run as administrator).

Hope this will help

p.s.: sorry about my English is not the best at all.
I am running the game on on my sony vaio laptop and suffered 3 crashes in the introductory section before
I switched the compatibility mode to Win98. That appeared to solve the problem for me.
Since i had similar problems with the original Silver on CD and in most cases it was the problem of grafik card.
I guess Silver was thentimes programmed very close of thr possibilities of grafik card (drivers) that cause problems with todays systems.

Therefore solutions like to restrict garfik commands (compatibility mode or to use native grafik card) could work.

Could not find one save way to solve the problem, propably depends on the grafik on the concerned system
my game crashes everytime. in diferent places. when im playing, just freeze the screen, the sound crash and i cant use any command of windows. then i need to reboot my pc everytime. anybody could help me?

mine used to do the same, it was fixed after setting the compatibility to "Windows 98 / Windows Me"
With win 10 the game crashed after a few minutes for me. By using compatibility mode win 98 it worked for longer and by restricting the colours it seems to work fine once I get into the game. The options page still stutters.
