Running SH4 in a display resolution of 4K (3840 x 2160) results in the top borders of the widescreen bar to flicker as its rendering the image over the black bar.

I've done all the basic troubleshooting available for this type of an issue with no avail. This is definitely a 4K display issue.

are you running the in game resolution past 1024 by whatever? if you just have the resolution set in the DX options program supplied with the game after installation you can get the game to run in 4k at 4:3 and wont have that issue.

I too am running a 4k monitor, Dell Ultra HD 4k Monitor P2715Q 27-Inch and don't have this issue after doing the settings I mentioned.

Thanks for the reply. I can't find any settings that specify manually setting 4:3 aspect ratio. Here's the DX settings I'm currently running with.

Look at your screenshot again; in display mode you can select 4:3 resolutions.

I still don't get the advice... 4K (16:9) should be perfectly possible - Did you install some mod or fix?

...so your solution is to select a resolution such as 1024 X 768 ( a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution) as a fix?

If that's the case, then its not running or rendering output 4K. Just because you're physically viewing it on a 4K monitor, doesn't mean its rendering out at 4k. My issue is that I don't wish to run at a lower resolution than 4K as that is my default resolution and things operate better when at the default resolution. I was making this post to inform everyone that the letterboxing on the cutscenes at 4K is borked.

The rest of the resolutions listed do not have this issue.

In case anyone from GoG is reading this post, there are third party mods that actually remove the letterboxing entirely (none of which work with this GoG version of SH4 as they're applied their own DX wrapper/DX8 dll's). GoG, maybe you should look into this functionality as a fix?

Where did I say anything about selecting a low resolution? You asked how to pick 4:3, I answered how to. Don't forget to read my edit. Did you install a mod or fix? Because AFAIK, there's only one out there that *should* be compatible with this GOG version.

The cutscenes are 21:9... were they not intended as such?

I wasn't replying to you, I was replying to DreamedArtist. I'm fully aware of how to select a 4:3 resolution vs 16:9 or otherwise. I guess I'm going to request a refund for this... My original PC version, modded, can do better than this port. Thanks anyway guys!

No, you've quoted me. If you wanted to reply to someone else, you should've quoted that person.

Were you looking for a solution or just venting and planning on that refund anyway?

"I" didn't quote you, the forum system did. I was writing my reply to DreamedArtist when you sent your message, and the forum reply system triggered onto your message. I didn't even know you sent a message until after it was all done.

And as I said, NO, I wasn't replying to you, but now I am. I was looking for a solution, if I wanted to vent I'd take it to some place more productive than GoG forums?

Are you done? It seems you just want to troll and you're not really contributing to anything here. Also, please note that I have cc'd GoG support on this forum thread, including your responses. So, I don't know, maybe go fight with someone else? Thanks.

Note:

I managed to resolve the issue, in case anyone else is having issues. 4K and ANY MSAA filtering settings cause this problem. If you utilize nVidia hardware, use those MSAA effects through the nVidia control panel and apply as I haven't had an issue with that. Thanks for those that contributed positively to this forum. Marking as resolved.

How is you quoting the wrong person him trolling...? I don't even understand how you can unknowingly quote the wrong person...
