Hello!

My optics drive is shot and I can't install games that I love via the discs. To circumvent this problem in the mean time, I've decided to buy a digital copy of it so I can still play the game with a friend. However! He still uses the disc version of the game. Can the GOG version of the game play online with the disc version (or even Steam version for future reference), assuming both are patched to the 3.19 (or 3.1.9, or whatever) patch?

I would think yes but I cannot be sure as long as both are the exact same version.

You can still PBEM in Civ IV. As long as you two can load save files from each other, you can go wild.
