It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I recently upgraded to a brand new PC, running Windows 10. I downloaded and installed SMAC and SMACX just fine, but I've been unable to get it to launch at all. I've tried different compatibility modes while running it as admin, but it's not working. I can't figure out what's going wrong. I had no problems running it on my older PC with windows 7.

;Please see the following information from GOG's Alpha Centauri page

"Please be advised that Windows 10 operating system will receive frequent hardware driver and software updates following its release; this may affect game compatibility.

ATI/AMD compatibility notice: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri requires graphic card drivers version 13.4 or older. "

If you have an ATI/AMD video card, you may have to roll back your driver to an earlier version

I edited the "Alpha Centauri.Ini" file and set "DisableOpeningMovie=1"

Now it starts.

It crashed when I tried to move a unit using mouse, though. But using keyboard seems okay so far...

Weird stuff, it works perfectly fine for me. Maybe a hardware related issue? Do you have a laptop with some nvidia/intel optmus setup? If so maybe try to choose your nvidia card to be used for everything, though that's only a wild guess.

Ha, you may be on to something there!

Yeah, I'm playing it on an Asus A455LB with Intel HD5500 + nVidia GeForce 940M, and the default "preferred graphics processor" is Intel's.

I'll try changing it explicitly to the nVidia one...
Sorry -- I haven't come back here in a while to check on the status of the question (I've been distracted by 'life' stuff and haven't tried to play or fiddle around with the settings until today).

Anyway, I tried to play today, tried changing my .ini files, no luck.

BUT, I saw the comment about the ATI drivers -- I have an NVidia card, not ATI, but I thought 'why not?". I found some updated graphics drivers, and... suddenly everything seems to work.

Note that I am almost positive that when I first had the issue, that I had checked my drivers, but it's possible that I did not (memory is not what it used to be). But regardless, Thanks!
