I just updated to McOS High Sierra and now my favorite game won't launch! I was just in the middle of a tough game, too.

I've attached a screenshot of the error. I tried downloading a fresh copy of SMAC, but get the same error. I'm not too tech savvy, but I'm guessing this has something to do with WINE more than the application itself.

Any help is appreciated.

Did you check if Wine has an updated version?

What hardware, and are you using the GOG Mac build? Wineskin has issues with High Sierra. Try to disable Auto-detect GPU in the Screen Options of the port's Wineskin (Right-click - Show Package Contents - Contents/Resources/game/ - Right-click - Show Package Contents - Alpha Centauri Alien Crossfire.app - Wineskin).

Also, that's not a screenshot of the error. That would be if you clicked show details.

I received a message from GOG.com support that says,

It seems that with the latest update, Apple introduced last minute changes that made some of our games incompatible with High Sierra.
Our Product Team is aware if the issue and looking for a solution.
I apologise for inconvenience.

Update worked - but my mouse frequently disappears and makes gameplay difficult if not impossible. Anyone else have this issue? Any workarounds?
Same issue here. I'm going to try the suggested fix and I'll let you know what I experience.
Did anyone find an answer to the missing mouse pointer? I just ran into it and was wondering if there was a known solution. Thanks!
I am not able to run the current installer package I download from GOG under High Sierra.

My existing installation was blowing up as soon as I selected SMAC vs SMACX, but the GPU detection fix worked for me (and the mouse still works OK). More specifically:

In the file /Applications/Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.app/Contents/Resources/game/Alpha Centauri Alien Crossfire.app/Contents/Info.plist -- I changed:

<key>Try To Use GPU Info</key>
<true/>

to

<key>Try To Use GPU Info</key>
<false/>

the solution is to not click on the videos. Not on the starting videos or the secret project videos. I don't know why this is but it works. You can use spacebar to abort the videos.
I was wondering if anyone knew wether or not SMACX is working on the new MAC OS Mojave?
Yes, it works on Mojave!
