I upgraded to macOS Catalina today and I can't seem to play SMAC. GOG Galaxy opens fine. The game itself is a 64-bit program according to Apple (see screen shot). Moreover, I played the game just fine without any other warnings about using a 32-bit program under the earlier version of macOS.

When I click the green play button it goes gray, like the game is about to load, and then nothing happens. The button turns green again.

So, any ideas? Anyone else unable to play?

Nope. It appears broken.

Most older games will be broken due to Catalina being 64bit only.

But the game itself is 64 bit according the system profiler. See my screen shot. Is there some helper app that needs to be updated or is there just no hope?

If you want GOG personnel to assist you, write to support. Hopes of someone reading a forum post should be slim to none.

Yes, check GOG's support page for the game then if that did not help, contact support.

So it is confirmed. There is no work around. SMAC will not play on macOS 10.15 Catalina. This is what I got back from GOG support.

Unfortunately your operating system is not supported. This game is 32-bit only and will not work on macOS 10.15. I do not know why the 64-bit compatibility is shown. There are no workarounds short of installing Windows.

Do you have access to a different computer that meets the system requirements and that you could use to play the game?

Install a Linux distro with multi-arch (both 32 and 64bit support after installing the necessary libraries) next to Mac OS.

EDIT: Other ways available now.

I have Catalina installed and I was able to get Alpha Centauri to run...

You need a new wrapper (use Porting Kit) and install game with a Wrapper with WS11WineCX64Bit19.0.1 Engine....

It runs very smoothly...

I can also confirm the game runs after updating the Engine to WS11WineCX64Bit19.0.1.
Download the 7z for the aformentioned engine, drop it in ~/Library/Application Support/Wineskin/Engines, run wineskin, upgrade engine.

I’ve tried doing this. The game loads and the open video sequence launches and then after it is done the video just hangs. The game never goes to the menu to initiate a game. Any advice would be super helpful.

The exact same thing happens to me, I have tried changing the Wine version, changing the Wrapper engine and all the other settings I could think of but so far only a black screen, mouse pointer and music playing.
