I can't begin to express my frustration.

The devs have essentially guaranteed that I will never play this mess of a game ever again.

What's the point of playing if you just die over and over, and the prizes you get don't even help you that much? I just can't anymore.

It's like Dwarf Fortress or Darkest Dungeon (or the Last Jedi!), which are engaging enough to draw you in and then pickle you in despair and failure. Clearly that's what the devs are shooting for. But yeah, a lot of the advances aren't very useful. I prefer to think of them as achievements.
