So I got it installed, and I tried to run it. All I can see is a black box with the mouse pointer on it. I hear what sound like movies playing, and I can hit ESC and go to what sound like other movies, but I don't see anything.
I tried running the graphic mode setup and tried D3d, openGl, overlay, etc. and all of them have the same problem. I looked at the doxbox, conf but I didn't see anything in there that stood out as a problem. Advice?

I'm not *that* good with DosBox, but since no one else answered, anything may be better than nothing.
Can you post your complere DosBox config? (Or better, link to it?)
What version of DirectX are you using? Did you try any other game on DosBox, i.e. did DosBox ever work on your system at all?

I'm having exactly the same problem getting Shattered Steel to start.
Sent an e-mail to support a week ago but no response as yet.
Anybody know of a solution ?
I had the same problem Try this. 1st go to the start menu. 2 go to all programs gog.com shattered steel. In there you will find a graphic setup button go down the list trying the different options. I got it to work on Direct3d

Download newest version of DOSBox (0.74). Version supplied with the game is outdated and they do not give an option to install without their version (0.72). Go into Shattered Steel folder, delete everything in the Dosbox folder, go to where you installed dosbox 0.74, copy all, go back to Shattered Steel folder, dosbox, then paste. Open dosbox.conf with something like notepad, delete everything from serial4=disabled to the top of the page. Go to start menu, all programs, DOSBox-0.74, options, DOSBox 0.74 options, copy page from the top to serial=disabled, go back to Shattered Steel folder, dosbox.conf, paste above [dos]. save and exit. Launch game with supplied shortcut.
