HI,

First, it's great to see Shadowrun Returns here on GOG. I've recently bought a Steam version of it, but I consider buying a DRM free copy (for myself or as a gift), but I don't know if it supports a fan made campaigns etc. Steam version is using a Steam workshop for those.

Do you know of any not-Steam databases/hubs with additional content for it?

I have no direct experience with this, but it looks like you can via Nexus:
http://harebrained-schemes.com/post/drms-end/
http://www.nexusmods.com/shadowrunreturns/?
Non-steam versions can get mods on the Nexus.

You just have to put the downloaded file into

C:/documents and settings/user/AppData/Local/Harebrained Schemes/Shadowrun Returns/ContentPacks

(on XP)

Btw, not Application data, but AppData. It's created after you install the game

just put the rar or zip archive of the mod there and you should have it accessible in the game's main menu when you start a new game

You can get DRM free modules anywhere, but the best place to look is nexus.
Sadly many UGC are at the moment steam only. But it has only been a few days since GOG release

My way was to start the game. Under Content you can run the Editor. In the Editor you have to open the content package. Then you must Publish the content Package locally. After this you will find it in the game.
i got this one to work last night.

downloaded 'shadowrun ulimited' from nexus after harebrained schemes tweeted out about it.

downloaded it manually since the nexus mod manager doesnt support 'shadowrun returns' yet.

http://www.nexusmods.com/shadowrunreturns/mods/134/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fshadowrunreturns%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D134&pUp=1

searched the web about how to install it.

found this... (im running windows 7)

gog games > shadowrun returns > shadowrun_data > streamingassets > contentpacks

it comes as a zip file but just go ahead and place the whole folder '51f15c62336331d02c00440e-Secret Lab Run - Copy' into the 'contentpacks' folder.

when u start up 'shadowrun returns' just click 'content' at the opening menu and you'll see the 'shadowrun unlimited' content available to play along with hairbrained schemes main story, 'dead man's switch.'

i played it for a few minutes but i didnt want to get sidetracked from playing the main mission since i just got the game yesterday here on sale. :)

update: taltamir says below not to extract the zip file and to just 'place the zip file directly into the UGC directory.' thx for the tip, taltamir. i tried it and its working good. hope i didnt cause anyone any grief.

Actually you should NOT extract the zip file. Place the zip file you downloaded directly into the UGC directory.

Yeah me too. The "Publish Content Locally" ist just a menu under "File" in the editor.
You can save the other peoples UGC, wereever you want. If you open it and publish it with the editor, the game is able to find it then. Instead of the "Installed" mark of the original campaign its hosted as "published locally".

Ok, seems there are two ways of getting the ugc into the game :)

Why should the zip file not be extracted? I have consistently done that, and I had not problem starting stories from Nexus.

I tried the similar folder in Windows 7, but I found that I had to use <installpath>\Shadowrun Returns\Shadowrun_Data\StreamingAssets\ContentPacks. ContentPacks in the AppData folder were ignored.

And a small tip: Make a shortcut to the folder. It makes it a lot easier.

It works either way, but extracting it should theoretically result in lower performance (reading many small files from HDD instead of one file and then decompressing it in ram). Furthermore the zip has built in CRC for testing files for corruption while extracting them gets rid of it. And finally, it is a completely pointless extra step.

If you really really want to you can do it and the game would work. But there is no reason to put this as a step in the guide
sadly most content is only available on steam workshop by now, we really need to get people to post their stuff on nexus aswell :)
I already found some great stuff like a pre-made appartment that I would love to use on my first selfmade adventure

Most do. Nexus has roughly 210 files and SW roughly 250 files. Assuming that the 210 files on Nexus are also on SW, it follows that almost 85% of the files are on Nexus.

Having said that, if you find a mod on SW that isn't on Nexus, you could ask the kindly author to release it to Nexus as well :-)
The author confirmed btw that there is no difference between the files.

The only difference between publish locally and publish to steam is that the latter automatically uploads the zip file while the former requires you to manually upload the zip file.

So if authors consents to it, nothing prevents a user who owns the game on steam from downloading it from SW and then uploading it to nexus for the author.
