gamesfreak64: Everyone says this game is awesome, and in the style of Jagged Alliance, and it kinda is, with far better graphics and sound though...

so i bought/got it at the mutator promo yesterday (oct 8th) for 3.19 euro

i installed and began to play, it is a very great game BUT... its not like fallout and jagged alliance

you can zoom in and out turn around and more of those things you could'n do in the classic JA games and Fallout
so i uninstalled it cause its not like the previous named games.

I like to play simple games, no 3d, no zooming in, no extras like these games nowadays have.
I dont mind if my chars walk to the end and the after 1 second or so they are all of a sudden at next sector :D, i like that kind of playing.

So i wont be buying the rest of the shadowrun, too bad cause it is very good.
If other games come around that play and look in the style of the original JA classics and Fallout (before it all had to turn 3d)(even c&c/red alert turned 3D and i think its horrible)

I go for bitmapped engines all the way.

jdsgn: If you're looking for sth like Fallout (I guess you mean 1 and 2), have you considered Wasteland 2? I have not played it and it does seem to have its flaws, still if it just was a bit cheaper, I would probably buy it.

It's surprising to read that characters cannot be transferred. Does this go in general? How do user generated content campaigns feel?

Concerning Shadowrun Returns, I played it on Android and really really liked it. I did not try Dragonfall, though.
wasteland? i know it... saw it in pcgameplay (dutch/belgian magazine)
i saw it and thought wow this will be fallout....
seems it uses a form of 3d zooming in and all and rotating to see who is attacking you from behind, the old games dont have that and all that turning/rotating makes my legs feel like i walk on a ship, so i stay clear of 3d

So oldschool isn't oldschool enough for you, huh?^^ Guess you're a hard case...

I think Torment: Tides of Numenera will utilize pre rendered backgrounds...
Superbrothers Sword and Sorcery is really oldschool, so is Barkley 2, but I think none of these will satisfy you...
I guess you have heard of the Jagged Alliance Flashback project?
Well, I dunno.

:D i did think it was also in small coverd in a preview in pcgameply

i hate the 3d remakes of good old classics all the spirit, look and feel are gone, replaced by default 3d characters, just ebcause nowadays you should be able to see if someone shoots you in the butt or the back, so thats why you have to make games that allow you to rotates freely and spin like mad.

3d is only okay for the real FPP multiplayer online where you walk with headset on ready to frag some guys :D
thats where it is made for, single player games should not be 3d....

Jagged Alliance should not be multiplayer at all, cause it be another 3d shooter online with a default 3d engine
you wont have that old feeling you had playing the original games, if you do have it, well then you never understood
the real jagged alliance games, fallout games, c&c and redalert games before the 3d madness struck those good old games.
Interesting is what this user refered game as non-bearable because of 3D. The only 3D in Shadowrun: Dragonfall DC and Shadowrun Returns are character models (and even so not exactly), all other stuff are 2D tiles on pre-rendered maps and even walking, zooming, cover system and fights happens in 2D, on to some degree playable area, you can't rotate maps in 3D because they aren't 3D. I don't mind models and never use perspective mode, only orthogonal mode because maps are purely isometric 2D like the classic games did. ;-)

Even if it used 3D rendering it would simply be in the construction of the models. Why waste time drawing a 3D butt when software will do it for you opening up the artist and developer to work on more important, interesting and end user compelling things such as "detail" and story line. Seems a waste to not use a steel hammer when a stone one would have worked, right? Wrong.
