Before people recommend the common solution, yes, I've already tried restoring the save from back-up, but the back-up is just a back-up of a new game.

Seriously, WTF?!?

I completed the game a couple of nights ago, and was looking forward to playing more of it a la Diablo 3, but now my save is completely gone.
Really not sure I can be bothered to play it all again just to get back to where I was.

Is there any other way of retrieving my save, other than that outlined above?

Your saves should be fine. The new version seems to keep them in a different location than before. My saves used to be in

C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\Flying Wild Hog\Shadow Warrior 2

Now, they're in

E:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\Flying Wild Hog\Shadow Warrior 2

If you have your game installed in a non-C drive like I do, then that's probably the issue. Copy your save files from the C drive location to the new location on the drive that the game is installed on. I hope these instructions make sense. If you do have the game installed to your C drive, then I'm not sure what the problem would be.
Aha, thank you :)
Now why didn't they tell me that when launching the game?
Still, problem solved, and kudos to you Marioface5.

Because apparently all the testers have installed the game on C:-drive, so nobody noticed when the new version used an "interesting" method to determine it's save path...

Of course the real problem here is the fact far too few games let us specify where we want our saves to be stored, every game should have at least a command line option to set the path or a SavePath.cfg file that we could edit either in the default save folder or in the installation folder depending if we want to keep our saves separate from other users.
