Don't install patch 2.2, it is broken.
Stay on 1.4.

I'm always confused why system updates can break the game... No other game has pink screen, why this one has and updating windows is the fix?

There was other game and it had no sound because of windows update as well... Just this one game,
SOLUTION- install Visual C++ Redistributable version 2012 (and maybe 2010).
These come packaged into the installer for the DEMO. I played the demo first, and the full version worked perfectly. Uninstalling the C++ libraries made the screen go pink.

Apparently a Unity Engine/ Windows backward compatibility issue?
